News Article - Hoopstars Camp - Jun 26, 2009 You should have seen the hardwork!! Coach Trussell and his assistants had these young men and women playing some serious ball. The camp was awesome!! Thanks to the Varsity Boy's players for taking time out to help the young kids who will be trying to follow in their footsteps. I had an opportunity to talk to some of the kids who went to different camps, and they all agreed, Hoopstars camp was the BEST!! With all the good things I have seen and heard, I am so glad our kids get to play for such a great program. Thanks again to all the coaches and parents who are so involved with making NMB basketball a huge success. Can't wait until Nationals!!!! Let's put this camp to use.
News Article - Brunswick Community College - Jun 9, 2009 THANKS BRUNSWICK COMMUNITY COLLEGE The USBA recently held a tournament at the new Brunswick Community College facility in Bolivia, NC this past weekend. The NMB Hoopstars had four teams participate in the tournament. The facility is simply awesome!! The NMB Hoopstars would specifically like to thank Ashlyn Burke and Coach Walter Shaw for working with the USBA to make that tournament happen. Hopefully there will be future partnerships with BCC & the USBA that will allow us to participate again.
News Article - 11u boys at Brunswick - Jun 7, 2009 3 GAMES IN A ROW!! These boys played more minutes than Lebron or Kobe play in a night!! The boys took court and after 3 consecutive games, finally left the court, and man did they look tired! They gave Coach Rick everything their little hearts had, but fell just short. Again, these boys are playing to develop the skills that they will need at the high school level and beyond, so a few losses along the way will show them where they need to work. It's so exciting to see all the age groups play, and it will be even more exciting to follow these kids as they pursue their dreams to become B team, JV and eventually Varsity basketball players. I am sure not every player will make it, but they will never forget their Hoopstar days, the days where they played ball against some of the best talent around. I am sure I speak for the parents when I say, thanks to Coach Trussell and all the coaches, and staff of the USBA for giving these kids the chance of a lifetime. Go HOOPSTARS!!
News Article - 10u at Brunswick - Jun 7, 2009 Did you see these guys? If you didn't you missed some exciting basketball. Coach Gore worked these guys hard in practice, and it showed with much better basketball this weekend. Cooper Chandler looked like a giant as he drove that basketball hard to the goal against much bigger boys. Way to go Coop!! The rest of the team worked just as hard, giving Coach Gore everything they had, but coming up just short again. I wish these guys had 10 more weekends to play, at the rate of improvement that they are showing, we would be #1 in no time!! As these young boys continue to develop under the guidance of Coach Gore, they are going to be exciting in the years to come. The future of North Myrtle Beach Basketball looks bright.
News Article - 12u at Brunswick - Jun 7, 2009 WOW!! Another great weekend of basketball! I mean, who cares that college basketball is over, when we have such exciting USBA league action. The boys fought really hard to give give Coach Trussell an early birthday gift with a championship this weekend, but fell just short. After routing the Heat and beating them by over 20, the guys beat the Excel in our second game. It was a nail-biter and sent the Excel into their second match up against the Heat to see who would play our Hoopstars in the Championship game. The Excel came out on top and were able to fight hard to edge us in the final. Overall, we had a really good weekend with the guys looking great as we wait for the Nationals. Keep playing with the intensity and passion boys and we should do really well in the Nationals. On a side note, Devan Nance had a breakout weekend scoring 12 points against the Heat on Saturday. Devan had struggled a bit this year, but this goes to show you, listen to your coach, work hard and eventually the hard work will pay off. Every tournament it seems that the players are developing more and more. Great job Coach Trussell, and NMB Hoopstars.
