Nov 8, 2011 - Fall Sports Awards Honors Team Effort
Congratulations to Kai Johnson who received the JV Football Coach's Award from Coach Troke at a ceremony at Northwood honoring all the Fall athletes. Nov 4, 2011 - Gladiators end season with fight in their hearts JV season ends on a productive note.Playing two games in 48 hours meant no joy for the NHS JV football team as they closed out their snake-bitten season, in which they played only four of eight games as scheduled. Tuesday's re-scheduled game against Einstein was a 0-20 shutout. On Thursday, the team took the long road to Damascus where they lost 28-6. However, the indefatigable players and their stalwart fans left the Hornets' stadium with smiles on their faces: Due to problems with the clock, it appeared that two minutes remained in the 4th quarter with the Gladiators down 28-0 when Randall Emakoua (wearing #9 and not his customary #21), broke free with a mad dash to score for the Gladiators. Before the cheering stopped, the refs blew the game whistle and all learned that the clock was wrong, and the JV had scored on the very last play of the game. Congrats to the JV football team and their coaches on their fine efforts throughout the season, and best wishes for only sunny days when they next take the field. GO GLADIATORS! Oct 25, 2011 - Something to Celebrate Number 21 gets a touchdown in Monday afternoon's match against visiting Watkins Mill. More game photos here.
The JV Gladiators met Watkins Mill on the gridiron Monday afternoon and fell in a very close game 14-6. The defense was led by the stalwart play of Kai Johnson, DeAngelo Graham, Joel Lloyd, and Randall Emakoua who also scored the touchdown for NHS on a 21 yard run. The offense line played its best game of the year, helping to keep Northwood in the game. The JV will play its final home game on Thursday against Einstein, kickoff is at 3:30 and everyone is invited to attend. Oct 13, 2011 - Watkins Mill Game canceled due to weather Our Rain-plagued JV season suffers another wash-out: the 10-13 home game has been canceled and rescheduled for Monday, October 24 at 3:30.Oct 1, 2011 - JV Misses on Extinguishing the Blazers
Northwood's defensive effort improved in the second half but the Gladiators fall to Blair in a cold drizzle. Action photos from the game can be seen here.
Montgomery Blair surged onto NHS home turf with two touchdowns in the first quarter, and a 24-0 lead at the half. The Gladiators rallied in the second half with a stronger defensive effort, but gave up another two touchdowns and were unable to put points on the board.
As Coach Troke tells us, "We just came off the field versus a very fired-up Blair team that wanted to avenge the loss that Northwood’s varsity put on the BHS varsity on Friday night, 42-0. The Blair JV is undefeated and it showed as they played a very solid game in defeating us 38-0. I felt the team gave a very good effort and can see that we grow each week; our time is coming!
Next week is a by for the JV Gladiators, who next play Watkins Mill at 5:30 on Th 10/13. GO GLADIATORS! --as reported by Elizabeth Dunn Sep 27, 2011 - Wheaton wins on safety So close... After keeping Wheaton scoreless during a tight first half, the Northwood quarterback was tackled in the end zone for a rare safety and Northwood lost, 2-0. The JV Gladiators hope to post their first victory this Saturday at 10AM when they meet local rival Montgomery Blair at home.
Parents, we don't organize a formal pre-game meal on weekends, but if you could send fruit or granola bars or juiceboxes for the team on Saturday morning, it would be appreciated. -- as reported by Liz Dunn Go, Gladiators! Sep 25, 2011 - Wheaton on Monday and Welcome to Kyle Hitzelberg The game with Wheaton that was canceled due to field conditions this past Saturday will be played on Monday the 26th at 7:00 p.m. at Wheaton.
