Mar 12, 2013 - Planning Info for 2013-2014 Seasons! Coaches- New Important Info for the 2013-2014 Seasons
The Section III cheer committee has had its final meeting for the 2012-2013 season. Below are some proposed changes in Section III and some information from that meeting. Competition dates for next Fall and Winter have been added tinder the "Schedule" tab!. More will be added as they are made available to us AACCA certifications - for new coaches, let us know if you need to take the course, if there are enough, and you'd rather not take it online, we will set up a local site if possible. For those needing re-certification this year, the course is now available online at www.AACCA.org Section III Championship changes - Pending approval by the Executive Committe, and barring major changes in cheerleading by NYS, Divisions at the Section III Championship will now be strictly by Class (A,AA, B, C, & D) rather than class and team size. So all teams in a class will compete together regardless of how many athletes are competing. Athletic Directors have been promoting this change, so that we match other sports, and we crown 1 Section III Champion per class rather than 3. Now that our scoring process makes it equal for large and small teams to compete together, this change is now possible. There will be no separate division for Co-Ed, they will compete by class as well. All teams must perform a particular skill by the majority of their team to get the maximum difficulty points in that category so no matter how many are on the floor if a majority of that group executes the skill, they are eligible for those points. - there should no longer be non-tumbling categories at competitions in Section III. Reasoning: all competitive teams should be striving to meet the level of athleticism the sport promotes and all schools should at least be able to use forward rolls and cartwheels to meet tumbling requirements, which eliminates the need for a non-tumbling category. Classification of 7-8th grade athletes - if you have younger athletes that you wish to use in your cheer program, they should be classified before the beginning of the season, as is done with all other sports. If you have a 7-8 grader who you put on JV, but may want to move up, you should have them tested for both the JV and Varsity requirements as reclassifying them Mid-season from JV to Varsity is not possible and you will be unable to move them. Classification for cheer follows the gymnastics requirements and is done by your athletic department for all sports prior to each sport season, so plan ahead! We are planning to do a coaches clinic, tentatively June 26th at 6pm, to keep coaches informed of rule changes, scoring, etc. more info to follow as it is available and finalized. Also being planned - coaches clinic regarding the rubric and understanding scoring and rules to maximize your scores with your teams' skills. Possibly to be held in Aug/Sept.. A judge certification course for those wishing to judge inSection III will be set up for September. You must take this course if you wish to be on the list of approved judges in Section III, which is also shared with Section V. The Section III Championships will move areas as follows. Fall 2013-Syracuse, 2014-Utica Area, 2015- North area. Winter 2013-14 North, 2014-15 Syracuse area, 2015-16 Utica area. This coming Fall and winter sites have been picked, but If you are in one of the areas for upcoming years start thinking of hosting and let us know you'd like to be considered by filling out a request form on this website!
