News Article - CR 4th @ Kalama - Feb 2, 2010 KALAMA — Woodland sent three wrestlers to the championship round and won a pair of titles at the 24th annual Rubber Chicken Classic wrestling tournament on Saturday. Rochester won the 10-team event with 194 points, followed by La Center with 167. Toledo/Winlock placed third with 153, Woodland tallied 150 in fourth place, Castle Rock had 142 in fifth and Kalama amassed 85 in sixth. Woodland's William Davis (160 pounds) and Jake Elliott (171) won their weight classes, with Max Essig (125) finishing second. Placing third were Travis Rodman (152), Daniel Trogstad (189) and Jose Torres (285), finishing fourth was Caleb Kaiser (130), and placing fifth were Lane Newburn (119), Josh Monge (135) and Zach Lacey (215). Castle Rock's Rey Howard (119), Levi Godinho (135) and Kyle Godinho (140) all won their weight classes, with Jeff Edwards (152) placing second. Sam Williams (145), Austin Althof (171) and Taylor Harriman (215) finished third, Kris Erdelbrock (125) was fourth, and Toby Elf (160) and Mason Fernandez (285) finished sixth.
News Article - Rockets Pin Gorge Meet - Feb 2, 2010 STEVENSON — Castle Rock's Zeke Lomer won all three of his matches by pin to claim Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament honors as the Rockets won the Columbia Gorge Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday. Castle Rock edged host Stevenson 136-135 to win the team title. Lomer (152 pounds) won his weight class along with teammates Jordan Booth (103), Marcus Deyo (119) and Travis Patrick (130). Michael Belinski lost to Deyo in the finals to place second at 119, and finishing third were Seth Risner (140), Riley Orton (145) and Ryan Ward (189). Dalton Gonzalez was fourth at 125.
New Photo Gallery - 2009-2010 Tournaments - Feb 2, 2010 News Article - Rockets roll to two wins - Jan 19, 2010 CASTLE ROCK — Ryan Ward, Castle Rock's 189-pounder, drew praise from head coach Joe Godinho for "two very strong efforts" as the Rockets whipped White Salmon (51-6) and Stevenson (62-27) in a Southwest 1A Trico Division wrestling double dual on Tuesday. Ward eked out an 11-10 win over White Salmon's Joshua Bell and stopped his Stevenson foe by fall. "The kid he (Ward) beat from White Salmon, that will come up huge for seeding criteria later in the season," Godinho said. "Our match against Stevenson, I thought that might be for the league title. They have a full lineup, but they were missing a few guys tonight." Jordan Booth (103, forfeit), Mike Belenski (112, forfeit), Marcus Deyo (119, pin), Kris Erdelbrock (125, pin), Dalton Gonzales (130, forfeit), Cory Alderman (135, forfeit), Josh Letteer (140, pin), Sam Williams (145, forfeit), Zeke Lomer (152, pin), Brycen Shelton (160, forfeit), Taylor Harriman (215, forfeit) and Kyle Orth (285, forfeit) had wins against White Salmon. The win over Stevenson was a bit more challenging. The dual started at 140 where CR's Kyle Godinho racked up an overtime pin. Riley Horton (145, 9-0 decision), Eli Lomer (152, forfeit), Jeff Edwards (160, forfeit), Ward (189, pin), Harriman (215, pin), Booth (103, forfeit), Belenski (112, forfeit), Deyo (119, pin) and Travis Patrick (130, pin) finished off the victory for CR (8-1, 3-0 league).
News Article - CR Sends 7 to Finals in Rainer - Jan 16, 2010 CR sends seven to finals RAINIER, Wash. — Castle Rock sent seven wrestlers to the finals and placed second as a team at the Sargeant Justin Norton Memorial wrestling tournament here Saturday. Zillah won the event with 252 points. The Rockets and 140-pound champion Kyle Godinho amassed 216 points. "It was a good day. We won a lot of close matches," CR coach Joe Godinho said. "To get that many kids through to the finals... It was a real good day." Kalama also competed in the 14-team Memorial and had four placers. Kyle Godinho won three times by pin and once by injury default to claim first at 140. Marcus Deyo (119), Rey Howard (125), Travis Patrick (130), Levi Godinho (135), Sam Williams (145) and Zeke Lomer (152) each advanced to the finals for the Rockets and finished second. Riley Horton (135), Jeff Edwards (152), Levi Shipman (171), Kyle Orth (215) and Taylor Harriman (215) each finished third for CR, while Josh Letteer (140) and Brysen Shelton (160) each took fifth. Michael Clizbe was second at 103 for Kalama, and Forest Ferdon was third at 130. Casey Heaton (103) and Brett Osterlund (112) each took fifth for the Chinooks.

CASTLE ROCK — Kyle Orth, a not-so-heavy heavyweight, gave away more than 70 pounds to his Woodland opponent Friday night but managed to post a 10-4 decision to highlight Castle Rock's 60-7 win over the Beavers in a nonleague wrestling dual. "Orth weighed in at 202 (pounds), but I moved him up to heavy. He did all the right things and used his quickness, and avoided getting squashed," CR coach Joe Godinho said. "I also thought Marcus Deyo at 119 pounds did some good things in his (20-15) win." Woodland forfeited the opening match at 152 pounds, then took a 7-6 lead on decisions by 160-pounder Travis Rodman (13-1 major) and 171-pounder Jake Elliott (10-4). But Castle Rock claimed the next 11 matches, including three forfeits. Other grapplers winning for the Rockets (7-1) were Ryan Ward at 189 (pin), Taylor Harriman at 215 (pin), Michael Belenski at 112 (14-2), Levi Godinho at 135 (5-0), Kyle Godinho at 140 (pin) and Sam Williams at 145 (16-1 technical fall).

Marcus Deyo (119 pounds), Rey Howard (125), Travis Patrick (130), Sam Williams (145), Zeke Lomer (152) and Taylor Harriman (215) each had pins for the Rockets (6-1, 1-0 league). The other winner for CR was Ryan Howard at 189 (7-0 decision), and the Rockets also received three forfeits. Ilwaco got victories from Rudy Alvarez at 112 (7-5 decision), Taylor Odneal at 160 (9-2), Joe Sjeldheim at 171 (pin) and Sergio Nunez at 285 (pin).
News Article - CR 6th at Royal - Dec 29, 2009 ROYAL CITY — Castle Rock amassed 110 points to finish sixth in the 18-team Royal Christmas Wrestling Tournament on Tuesday. "We had some good matches, but we also lost a lot of close matches," CR coach Joe Godinho said. "We weren't as intense and aggressive as we should've been. We seemed to lack the edge needed for this caliber of tournament." Kyle Godinho placed second at 140 pounds, falling 3-1 in the title match to a state placer. Travis Patrick (130) and Jeff Edwards (152) finished fourth, and Marcus Deyo (119), Zeke Lomer (160) and Kyle Orth (285) were fifth. The Rockets host the Jim Bair Classic on Jan. 9.
