As Game 1 visitors, the Smithtown STAMPEDE jumped out to an immediate, 1st inning, 4 - 0 lead in their Boys of Summer season opener, then stalled over the next 4 innings before scoring 4 more in the 6th in a 10 - 8 loss to the LI Whalers Navy team.

Taking game 2, Smithtown bounced back, but again jumped ahead in the 1st inning for a 2 - 0 lead.  The Whalers would tie it at 2 in the 5th as the STAMPEDE again stalled for several frames.  Finally in the bottom of the 6th, Smithtown tallied 4 runs on one hit, 4 walks, and a pivotal Whaler error.  Smithtown held on in the 7th as the Whalers tacked on 2 more runs to make the score a 6 - 4 final.

Team STAMPEDE started their day in proper fashion as Hit Man Anthony led off the Summer campaign with a walk.  Nick the Stick drilled a single to left advancing Hit Man to 2nd.   Josh's FC erased The Stick, but moved Hit Man to third from where he scored on Rickey's FC groundout.    Frankie, then Jason racked RBI base hits, and Salvatore worked a full count walk to force in the 4th run.  Smithtown held their 4 - 0 lead after jason took the mound as a 2 out walk and error proved harmless in the bottopm of the 1st.

Smithtown threatened 3 times over the next 5 innings, but failed to score.  Two walks to Josh, and one each to Scatch, Hit Man, The Stick, and Frankie put "free" runners on, but a single by Ricky in the 3rd and Salvatore leading off the 5th did not factor in.  Meanwhile, the Whalers put up a run in the second after a walk and double, then 5 more runs in the 4th.  Jason issued 2 walks and a single to start the 4th inning.  Jason was not hellped by 2 STAMPEDE miscues, and a bloop to RF and single to CF capped the scoring in the frame as the Whalers went up 6 - 4.

Smithtown countered with one in the 5th on 4 walks,  but 4 more runs by the Whalers in the bottom of the 5th proved to be enough for the win.  Smithtown rallied again for 3 in the 7th, but it was too little, too late.  Nick the Stiuck walked to lead off, stole 2nd, and went to third after one out on Ricky's single to LF.  A double steal had Ricky safe at second and the Stick crossing the plate to make it 10 - 6.  Jason lined an RBI single to CF, scoring Ricky, and he moved to second on the relay in.  Salvatore then stroked a shot to LF to score Jason, and he also took second on the throw in.  After 2 outs, Elliott hit a ball to SS for a single, with Salvatore having to hold.  The third out came on Brian's hot shot to 3B.  Fielded cleanly, the Whalers took the forceout and the game, 10 - 8.

In Game 2, Smithtown took a 2 - 0 lead in the bottom of the 1st after walks to Hit Man and the Stick were followed by Josh's RBI poke to LF and the E7 on the play.  Just like game one, the Smithtown offense dissappeared until the 6th inning.  Josh (6 IP, 4H, 4BB, 1 SO) fired away on the mound for 6 solid innings as he was nicked for 2 nearned runs in the 5th.  Josh's infield kept the Whalers in check as they made play after play.  Perfect up the middle were 2B Brian with 4 assists (& 4/6/3 DP), and SS Nicholas with 6 assists of his own, including 2 hit-robbing back-handers from deep in the SS hole.  Josh left after 6 innings, ahead 6 - 2.

With the Whalers having tied the game in the 5th at 2 - 2, Smithtown needed to wake up in a hurry.   Singles by Scatch, Josh, & Ricky were in the mix of walks to Hit man, The Stick, Jason, and Salvatore with bases loaded.  The 4 run burst provided a 6 - 2 lead that would hold up in the 7th as the Whalers tacked on 2 more vs. Frankie on to relieve for Josh.  6 - 4, Smithown.
