Ducks Trampled by STAMPEDEJul. 6, 2012 At Sagamore MS earlier this evening, a one-sided contest between the LI Ducks and Smithtown STAMPEDE was decided early by some solid Smithtown slugging in the bottom of the 1st. Smithtown relied on the hot pitching hands of starter Scatch, and his "personal" reliever, Hit Man Anthony. They both had stellar outings for the 2nd week in a row as they put goose eggs on the board for the Ducks.. Scatch went to work in the top of the 1st and set the tone early. Two groundouts to SS Nicholas were followed by a single to short right center. Ricky fired down to second to nail the stealing Ducks' runner. With a 1-2-3 2nd, Scatch faced the minimum 6 batters. Scatch was relieved by Hit Man, who inherited a 9 - 0 lead that was hammered out in the 1st inning. Nick the Stick (E5), Salvatore (HBP), Meat (2B), Frankie (2B), Ricky (E5), and Josh (E6) all reached base before an out was registered. Five runs were in and Elliott lofted a SAC fly to RF to score Josh. Smithtown fired again... Jason (E5), Hit Man (1B), Scatch (E3), Nick the Stick (BB), Salvatore (BB), and Meat on a FC all reached. 14 batters went to the plate for a 9 - 0 lead. Smithtown did not score in the 2nd as Josh's one out single was erased when Elliott was doubled up, 6/4/3. Hit Man relieved to start the third and allowed a one out bloop single to RC before a whiff & 2nd groundout to 2B Scatch. Hit Man's 2nd inning, the 4th, was the final inning on the day. A second bloop single to RC, steal of second, and FC grounder had a Ducks' runner on 3rd with 2 out. Hit Man issued a walk and then toed the rubber from the stretch looking for the 3rd out to preserve the shutout. With a 1 ball 2 strike count on the number 5 batter, Hit Man went to his bag of tricks... a neck-bending eephus pitch that took forever to get to the plate --- strike three looking, right in there to keep the Ducks off the scoreboard. Smithtown tacked on 2 runs in the 3rd as Hit Man (3-3, 2R, RBI) lined his 2nd single to left center with one out. Scatch beat out an infield hit, a FC by the Stick, and a 2RBI single to LF by Salvatore made it 11 - 0 Smithtown. Smithtown's 12th run, for the run-rule, came in the 4th. Josh whacked a double to LC. Jason singled up the middle. 1st & 3rd and the Hit Man up. Hit Man cracked his third line drive base hit to left center scoring Josh for the 12 - 0 victory.
