WBC fever grips SA

SABU will announce its final squad for the WBC on Wednesday after finalizing the release of minor league MLB players from the clubs.

Much has been speculated about the team and whether icons Paul Bell and Carl Michaels will be returning to the team. SABU held elections recently and there is a new urgency to eradicate the stigma that has driven the game in the wrong direction for the last 20 years. The fresh wind of change could be a huge catalyst for growth and focus on the future.

The squad includes a significantly improved pitching squad mostly from the minor leagues in the USA with pitching sensation Lovegrove leading the way. Wade Mackay who plays in the American Independent Professional league has his SA citizenship and been showing good form in tough Midwestern league. Gift Ngoebe and Phillips rounds out the foreign players headed to Jupiter for the opener against Israel on September 19th at 7PM.

Spain could start as favorites for the group with their impressive form. "Great defense and the offense feeds off fastballs".The well respected Durbanville American player Gary Kahn could be very useful in preparation for this game. His first hand experience coaching against the Spain national team could be invaluable.

The SA team will depend largely on their home grown players to man the field and should perform adequately. An exciting time awaits the SA baseball playing community as they watch what could be the beginning of a new era.
