Neil played the first Area 1 game of the new Surrey 2 wood competition this evening away to Richard Foot of Bolingbroke. Playing on what both bowlers found to be quite a heavy green, close exchanges took place over the first 8 ends before Neil edged ahead, eventually winning 16 shots to 5.

This afternoon Rachel took part in the Johns Trophy (Senior Surrey Ladies 6 rink team) trial game down in Canterbury against Kent. Rachel, along with the other Surrey bowlers found the green rather tricky, with her rink eventually losing 15 - 21, having fought back from a 0 - 20 deficit!

This afternoon, Rachel and Neil played a very close game to start the 2013 National Mixed Pairs competition. Playing Debby and John from Temple BC, ends were shared throughout the game with the 19th end finishing with the scores tied at 18 - 18. Fortunately a single on the 20th end followed by two shots on the final end saw Rachel and Neil through to the secoind round winning 21 - 18.  

After representing the Area in the National Finals of the Champion of Champions' Competition in 2012, Rachel began the defence of her Area crown this morning with a 21 - 12 win against Dee Moores, the club champion from Wandilea.

This morning saw our third successful taster session take place in Wimbledon Park. It was good to see the progress being made by our returning bowlers, Anne, Mary and Diane who were joined by Sabrina for the first time this year. Thanks to Pete who stepped in to help Barry with this morning's coaching. All is set for next week's 'Open Day' with two of our local councillors accepting the invitation to join us on the green.

Rachel headed to Warwickshire today for the two games which constituted the National Junior trial. She played some tidy ends during both the morning and afternoon sessions but was disappointed by her lack of consistency throughout the day. The England Junior Team and the England Development Team, who will replace the Irish Team in the Home International Series, will both be announced on Wednesday at 12.00 noon.   

Congratulations to Rachel on her selection for an England Junior Trial on Saturday 18th May. The trial will take place at Norgren Bowls Club, Warwickshire. The 2013 Home International Series will take place at Royal Leamington Spa on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July.
