Comfortable victory for All SaintsSep. 17, 2009
All Saints avenged their early season defeat with a comfortable win against Thornford.
Captain Fraser Wallace won the toss and decided to buck the recent trend and bowl first. He couldn't have wished for a better start as Steve Trott and Michael Nunns tore into the visitors with an exceptional opening spell. Before they knew it, Thornford were 4-13 off 10 overs, both openers taking 2 wickets. Nunns finished his spell with 2-9 from his 8, and was joined by Rob Keylock, who picked up another 2 wickets, despite dropped catches from Ben Sunderland! Steve Morgan bowled a very tidy spell without taking a wicket, as the batting side began a recovery of sorts. In fact, after looking like being all out for 50 at one stage, Legg (45) and Carver (23*) fought back before the returning Trott, claiming his 3rd wicket for 18, and skipper Wallace (2-6) cleaned up the tail. In total, Thornford had mustered 104 all out, but on a decent batting track it looked like a low total, even when considering Saints' recent struggles. Man of the match Steve Trott soon put paid to any faint hopes of a win with a rapid 34, putting the home side in a rather stronger position after 10 overs at 45-1. Nunns joined Derek Seward at the crease and between them they saw off the attack with relative comfort, despite some rather rash shots from the younger of the two. Their partnership of 60 finished what Trott had started, and wrapped up victory by 9 wickets, Seward finishing 30 not out and Nunns 28 not out. All in all, a good day's work as just two games remain in 2009.
