Play Outlaws 2009/10 Theme Song
Photo Caption: Players from Left to Right....Oh find your own kid! Outlaws finish 4th in Cactus Cup and end season with a great weekend of LAX After 6 games in less than 24 hours the Outlaws played their way to 4th place in the Cactus Cup. After advancing from pool play, having won the tie-breaker with two other teams by allowing less goals against, the Outlaws finished their season with a great final weekend of play. Although the results could have been a bit better, the obvious worn and tried Outlaws, battled to the end and finished with a fabulous weekend of lacrosse. A great finish to the season. Thanks to all the parents for supporting the players and the help with a great Saturday of games and food. While some of us will be moving on, the opportunity for others to step up and take the lead will begin next October/November. For those looking to take their game to the next level, Spring/Summer Starz (Az Burn) will begin with sign-ups in April and the chance to make very competitive teams for Summer tournament play both back East and in Northern California. Please check out the Az Burn website often for updates at http://www.eteamz.com/arizonaburn/ Game Summaries With an unfortunate forfeit by PCDS last Saturday, the Outlaws finished divisional play with a 7-2 record and are assured of their second playoff spot in three years. The Outlaws and PCDS were able to get some great scrimmage play in (in spite of the forfeit) before field conditions became unplayable. In what could have been the Outlaws most intense game this season, the team came up with a big 7-5 win against the Mustangs. After a quick 4-0 start, the game took the shape of so many this season and the Mustangs clawed their way back to only a 5-4 halftime deficit. The Outlaws again used 4th quarter energy and some great defense to hold on to their 7-5 victory. A great weekend of lacrosse for the Outlaw players as they logged a key divisional win against Estrella on Saturday winning 8-3 while missing all three faceoff middies. Luke Irvin stepped in and took control for the Outlaws. Splitting time in goal, Conner recorded his second game in goal and helped with the win. Sunday's scrimmage against Canada gave all the boys (the 15 that made it) a chance to experience the high level of lacrosse play that exists in some parts of North America and a chance to see where they need to build skills to play with the BIG BOYS. Nice to hear that even the Lightning had no chance against Team Canada. The Outlaws dropped their second in a row, losing 12-6 to the Vipers. Early mornings may not be the answer for the Outlaws as they looked intimidated in their lose to the Vipers. Ball control, groundballs, ball movement all favored the Vipers. Outstanding work and point blank saves between the pipes by Alex to keep the game as close as it was. If the Outlaws regroup and return to strong lacrosse play, it is likely they will encounter either the Vipers or the Patriots again in the Playoffs. When the Outlaws play to their potential either of those opponents would be a welcomed rematch. Outlaws lose a tough one to the Patriots. After staking the Patriots to a 5-1 halftime lead, the Outlaws fell short in their comeback bid Thursday evening and suffered their first loss - going down 6-5 at MVP. Once again the Outlaws waited until the 2nd half to start moving. However this time the team came up just short in its attempt to win the game late. Congrats to Walker, who recorded a "hat trick". The Outlaws posted a big win 15-3 over North Valley on Saturday. Great team play as many of the goals came off the sticks of newer players. Congratulations to Conner Lewis playing in goal in his first game in the AYLL. Conner, playing in approximately 3 quarters made numerous saves and really contributed to the Outlaws win. The Outlaws, off for nearly 3 weeks, slept walk through the first 3 periods of Thursday's game against Mohave. However, after a stirring talk from Coach Bill after the third quarter, the team played a smothering fourth quarter logging 3 goals - the last of which came off the stick of newly converted Attackman Sam Daniels with 6 seconds to play in regulation for a 4-3 victory. The team is right back at it Saturday morning at PCDS. Outlaws began 2010 play with an nice 4-1 win over the Scottsdale Eagles. For an opening season game, the Outlaws looked very good on loose balls and maintaining possession. Unselfish play by the Middies kept everyone involved in the game and the ball on the Eagles side of the field for most of the game - giving our Goalie a nice change from last year. Next game is Saturday Jan 23 against the Broncos. LAX4LIFE Jamboree - Successful in all ways! On Saturday, the Outlaws had a great outing both on the field and off. On the field, the team showed it is well on its way for the 2010 season posting 2 wins and a tie - with great teamwork and potent offense. Off the field players and parents got the chance to meet each other and enjoy great food. Most important the team was able to make an additional $100 donation to the Brady Wein fundraising effort. The 2010 Outlaws were privileged to be invited to participate in this charity event to assist Brady Wein. You can visit Brady's web page and read his story and a journal with updates on his long and fierce battle against AML (Leukemia). http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/babybrady/mystory Outlaws 2009/2010 Season - Underway The 2009/2010 Outlaws are now formed and practicing at Copper Ridge School Field #1.
