Belmont Red Raider football: This is where it all starts..... News Article - Congrats to former Belmont Pee Wee player - Feb 12, 2010 Devan Robbins earned the JV MVP trophy for his play during the 2009 season as a member of the South Point Junior Varsity team. Devan was a great player for Belmont's organization, and as fine a young man off the field as he was on the field. Guys like Devan will continue to do very well on teams, because he gives great effort and is committed to to the team...above self. He should be part of a solid group of players that are currently together and if they continue to work hard and stay hungry should do some impressive things on the gridiron in years to come.
News Article - Congratulations to the 3AA State Champ Red Raiders - Dec 14, 2009 South Point brought home another state title this past Saturday in Chapel Hill. Coach Devine and staff have put a bold stamp on the history of SP football. A recent Gazette article pointed out consistency in that coaching staff, and that is the biggest and most consistent ingredient in our success. We have new players that come through every year....yet the success stays. The disease of "me" never invades our locker room there. What a great job by those coaches and players. Despite chippy play...sometimes downright dirty by the South Johnston Trojan camp, the Raiders got back to basics and overwhelmed their opponent in the second half. It's great to be a Red Raider.
News Article - Off season begins - Dec 7, 2009 The parade and banquet are complete. Please contact Crawford if you have equipment that has yet to be turned in. We will take the rest of the month off, and begin planning and preparing for next football season with Belmont Optimist in early January. The Red Raiders from South Point are in the state title game at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, NC this Saturday, December 12th. The Pee Wee team should recognize the offense they run there in the state championship game. Georgia Tech ran it to perfection recently, drilling Clemson over and over with it. Congrats to all the Red Raiders in the state championship game.
News Article - Football banquet set for this Saturday, December 5th - Dec 2, 2009 We will have the JPW and PW portion of the banquet from 3-4:30 this Saturday at South Point High School. If you pull in the front parking lot, please enter through the doors to the far left of the front of the building. We will have equipment pick-up out front as you come in. We had a great time at the parade; we missed the few guys that weren't there, and hope to see you at the banquet. As predicted, SPH went up to Kannapolis and took care of business. We have a home game this Friday night at South Point- so come out and watch the Big Red Raiders do their thing. SP takes on Anson County, and they have plenty of talent to show as well. The word is they have at least three Division 1 athletes, so it will take a lot of Raider pride and hustle to advance onto the state championship game in Chapel Hill. Also, good luck to Northwestern (Rock Hill) and Offensive Coordinator/former Red Raider/former camp instructor for some of our Belmont boys, Kyle Richardson. Northwestern and the 'Air Raid' offense are in the state championship game this Friday night at South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium. The only thing in the world that would keep me from the Gamecocks home sidelines Friday night, is seeing those Red hats buckled and ready as they make their entrance down the hill.
New Photo Gallery - 2009 Textile Bowl - Dec 2, 2009 New Photo Gallery - Optimist Field - Dec 2, 2009 New Photo Gallery - 2009 Belmont Parade - Dec 2, 2009 News Article - HS Red Raiders host Kannapolis - Nov 25, 2009 Just three years ago, several current starting players on South Point's playoff team were playing Belmont Optimist Pee Wee ball. They had a great group, including a few more on South Point's roster that aren't starting as well as a few on junior varsity. That team had a chance to do something big in Pop Warner playoffs, but it was decided then that money (for that year) needed to be focused on getting the new Belmont Optimist fields ready for play. That was a tough decision for Belmont Optimist board to make at the time, I'm sure....but maybe that teams' coaches and players sacrifice was worth it. Those guys stayed together, played a year of middle school ball together, some a year of JV and now are playing significant roles in the playoff run as "big" Red Raiders. Maybe those boys learning a lesson early in life about sacrifice and committment has helped them get to where they are able to make a big contribution to this year's team, despite how young they are. Big things are ahead of this group in the future. It also goes to show you that getting reps playing football ....instead of standing and watching is always the better option. You have to commit to getting better, and forcing your way onto the field through hard work and effort. If you are going to commit your time to playing football - make it worth your while.
