The following tournaments are still available for registration, but will require an additional contribution from the parents, if we choose to participate. a) Ottawa Royals Kickin’ in the capital Boy’s soccer tournament: August 8th & 9th at a cost of $350.00 An additional contribution of $25.00 per player would be required. b) Russell U9/U10/U11 Mini Soccer Tournament: August 22 & 23 at a cost of $285.00 An additional contribution of $21.00 per player would be required.

News Article - Parent's Meeting Minutes - May 31, 2009 Parent’s Meeting MinutesMay 31, 2009
At 8:00 PM on Sunday, May 31, 2009, a meeting of the parents of the players on the Cumberland United Soccer Club U9 Blue Bombers was held at Broadway Restaurant in Orleans. A summary of the salient meeting points follows.
1. Introduction of the team roles & responsibilities i. Manager (Chantal and Frank) ii. Equipment Manager (Greg - Gavin's dad) iii. Co-coaches (Johanne, Dennis & Gaetan). PLEASE NOTE THAT GAETAN IS THE NOW THE HEAD COACH OF THE TEAM (AS OF JUNE 7) iv. Dennis will also serve in the role of Trainer (he is certified in First Aid)
Points discussed: b. Fairplay: 5 minute shifts is the goal. No always sustainable perfectly since changes are at the discretion of the referee and are only allowed when the Bombers are in possession of the ball. c. Positions will be rotated (Defense. Mid-Field, Forward/Striker) with the exception of Goalkeeper. This became a contentious issue during the meeting, however, it was pointed out that the kids are being groomed for potential positions on the U10 Cobras team next year and it would be in their interest to learn each of the positions. d. Players will play the same position for the entire game (Goalkeepers will typically play one half each). e. Positional responsibilities during each game: i. Defense: Corner Kicks ii. Midfielders: Throw-ins iii. Forwards: Free Kicks (unless position of the Free Kick on the field dictates that this would be impractical) f. Assiduity (on time – communication if not being there, etc.). Players are expected to arrive ½ hour before game times and 15 minutes before practices. Arriving on time is critical to good communication. Please let us know if you cannot attend a practice/game or expect to be late. g. Discipline (parents expected to support the discipline) i. First warning (verbal) ii. Second warning (player will be removed from the field and asked to go see mom/dad for a longer period) h. Parents’ involvement: Parents to help out during practices especially when short on coaches i. no parents on team sideline during game i. Only coaches are to engage in communication with referee j. No negative cheering! k. Coaches are not babysitter l. Homework for the kids: Coaches may give short homework assignments to help players understand the technical aspects of the game.
5. Games / Practices a. Dates (Tuesday night practice/Wednesday night Parmar/Sunday night game) b. Field (Tuesday: Gardenway/Wednesday: Marsha/Sunday: François Dupont)
6. Equipment (Greg .... net and corner flag) a. If anybody has a team bench or a tent, they would be useful during the tournaments?
7. Communication Points to speak to: a. There may be one more parents’ meeting half way through the season(pulse check) b. Other meetings can be called, if necesssary c. All communication should be sent to the team Managers
8. Documents for the team a. Medical info (form will be distributed soon)) b. Phone list, contact info and chain of emergency (information to be posted in the secure area of the web site) c. Vacations: Please advise the Managers when you plan to be away. d. Snacks: No snacks to be provided during the regular season games. Team budget will be used to purchase snacks for tournaments
9. Tournaments a. June 20/21 - Snakebite b. July 11/12 - Ottawa South United c. Other tournaments to be researched.
10. Team Fee a. It was agreed that all parents would contribute $50.00 to a team fund on behalf of their child to cover the costs of at least two tournaments, along with miscellaneous expenses (e.g. snacks at tournaments, etc.). b. The parents in attendance agreed that the fee is required for each player, regardless of whether the player is going to be present for tournaments (e.g. as a result of vacation, etc.)
