Apr 17, 2012 - We're baaaaaaaack!!!!

Sorry for the long delay but WOW!!!  So much has happened in the month or so I've been away!

Where do I begin?  We've had a lot going on recently.  We had several Lady Bucks B team members, Tara Crawford, Jayda Shafer and Lauren Hayden, get moved over to A team to help out.  We were sad to see them go but wish them all the best.  All of our girls have just done so good this year and I think I speak for everyone when I say that we are EXTREMELY  proud of each and every one of them.  A big "atta girl" goes out to Abbi Newby who absolutely CRUSHED a BOMB 2 run homer in the Elmont Tournament.

I'd be so lost trying to give the play-by-play for the past months worth of games...so instead I'm gonna post a picture montage so you can see what the Lady Bucks B-Team have been up to recently...

Mar 22, 2012 - Buckhorn falls to Scottsboro

The Scottsboro Wildcats had a new plan after going 0 for 4 against the Buckhorn Lady Bucks this season, they brought in their varsity pitcher and catcher Monday night to face the Lady Bucks.

The Lady Bucks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Kaylee Bond singled then a passed ball scored Ivy McKee.  Then Tara Crawford grounded out, but drove in Bond.  Two runs were not enough though, as Scottsboro pulled ahead over the next couple of innings.  The Lady Bucks scored one more run in the fourth on a groundout by Jayda Shafer. Despite their efforts, the Lady Bucks couldn't get over the hump.

They held off Buckhorn Lady Bucks as the Lady Bucks were unable to overcome a two-run third inning deficit.

Mar 13, 2012 - Rainy night in New Hope

Over the mountains and thru the woods, to the Indians house we go!

The New Hope Indians hosted the Buckhorn Lady Bucks last night in what everyone had hoped to be a continuation of the last time these two teams met.  Apparently, Mother Nature had other plans.

In the top of the 2nd with the Lady Bucks on top 2-0 the rain started, just enough to make control of the ball by New Hope’s pitcher a little difficult, to say the least.  It was almost painful to watch as the slippery ball went flopping towards home plate.  You could see it was frustrating to both teams. They wanted to pitch to us and we wanted to come out hitting the ball.

When we were able to put the bat on the ball, Jayda Shafer, Anaston Adams, Kalana Packard, Bailey Kern and Kelly Johnson came up with big hits to move the runners and put points on the board.  Coach Marks tells me this morning “I’m very proud of how the girls came back after the tough loss in the Albertville Tournament.  It says a lot about their character.  Despite the conditions, this was one of our best hitting games.”

In the weirdest play this season, on a pass ball and the bases loaded with Lady Bucks, Coach Amanda Marks sent Lauren Hayden home.  However, the ball smacked the backstop and bounced right back to the catcher, sending Hayden back to 3rd.  In the meantime, all the runners behind Hayden advanced, the Indians came up throwing to 1st first trying to get Kelly Johnson out as she jumped head first back to the bag, so Hayden took advantage and took off for home again, so the Indians tried to get her at the plate…and the runners advanced…again….and everyone was safe.  (panting!)  Whew!

The BMS Lady Bucks ended up taking the wind 25-2 and look forward to traveling to Scottsboro Thursday night.

Mar 12, 2012 - Tough day in Albertville for Lady Bucks

It started off great.  After a win Friday night over Scottsboro, the BMS Lady Bucks came out early Saturday morning and picked up right where they left off.  Knocking off Crossville then Albertville to finish 3-0 in pool play and go into eliminations as #1 seed.  It was the defense that shined this weekend.  Lauren Hayden, Ivy McKee, Anaston Adams and Bailey Kern snatched up everything that was hit and stopped any attempt at base hits.  It also helped that Abbi Newby and Rylee Bertus had great days on the mound.  During the Crossville game, Kelly Johnson had three attempts of runners stealing second base and three times they sent to the dugout dusting off the dirt as the umpire rang 'em up.  (and dont forget the one poor girl that's gonna need ice on her back for a couple of days)

The offense had a great day as well, with Tara Crawford and Kelly Johnson hitting back to back triples.  The Lady Bucks showed patience at the plate and worked the pitcher well.  Many of the runs scored came from walks and then great base running.  Once again, "Crash" Packard earned her name!  :)

In the elimination games the Lady Bucks didn,t fair as well, losing to Lawrence County 11-1.  Coach Amanda Marks stated after the game "We didn't bring our A game, and we didn't hit the ball like we did in the first couple of games, and you just can't win if you don't hit the ball."

Next game Monday @ New Hope.  GO LADY BUCKS!

Mar 8, 2012 - Coach's comments and Tournament Info

Coach excited about progress and upcoming tournament.

Coach Amanda Marks, in her first year as coach of BMS softball, is having the type of season most coaches dream of.  Undefeated in regular season play along with 1st and 2nd place finishes in the 2 tournaments they've played in so far.

In speaking to Coach Marks this morning, she stated "I'm so proud of how the girls came together, especially at Lincoln County. They faught so hard and came from behind for the win."  The Lady Bucks trailed most of the game until they busted it open in the 5th inning for the go ahead score.  Then held off a late charge by Lincoln County to preserve their second road win in as many nights.

As for how the Lady Bucks have been playing recently, Coach Marks added "they've shown great team work.  I'm really looking forward to this weekend and I'm anxious to see who will step up this time!"

This weekend the Lady Bucks travel to Albertville for the "Albertville MS Invitational".  Click HERE for directions to APRD fieds or HERE for the bracket.  To contact APRD call (256) 891-8240.

Mar 7, 2012 - Buckhorn fights back for the win at Lincoln County

Wow, what an entertaining and drama filled game.  The deck was definately stacked against the Lady Bucks going into this one!  It started off on a bad note having only one official and I could have sworn one of the LC players called him "PawPaw".  The field, well it was dirt.  Thats all I can say about it.  But I digress!

Even with the strike zone becoming smaller and smaller as the game went on, pitcher Lauren Hayden recorded 11 strike outs from the downhill mound. Kelly Johnson had a late game blast to centerfield that hit the bottom of the fence and rolled under for a ground rule double, driving in 2 RBI's. Tara Crawford kept her hot-streak alive going 3 for 3 with 3 runs batted in, ultimately giving the Lady Bucks the go ahead score.

Despite the obstacles and a sluggish start, the Buckhorn Lady Bucks rallied back from a 5 run deficit to beat Lincoln County 6-5.

Next up: Albertville Tournament this Friday!  GO LADY BUCKS!

Mar 6, 2012 - Lady Bucks crush Randolph 11-1 on the road

Last night the Lady Bucks went on the road for the first time this season to visit Randolph.  The Lady Bucks came out strong early and never looked back, defeating Randolph 11-1.  Kalana Packard had a heads-up play at first cacthing the runner off the bag for an easy out to start the game.  Rylee Bertus had a great night on the mound, pitching a 1 hitter and also taking a linedrive to the chest that she was easliy able to snag.  Also, a big nod goes out to Anaston Adams for a big smash at the plate!

Next, the Lady Bucks travel just a liitle north to Tennessee to face Lincoln County today at 5:00 pm.
