News Article - Tide Finishes 6th at State Championship - Feb 7, 2010

A Trio of silver medal performances led the Tide indoor track team to a 6TH place finish at the 2010 State Championships at Dartmouth.

The meet opened with an exciting battle between Concord and Bishop Guertin in the boy’s 4x800m relay, with BG arising victorious. After solid legs by  Steven Ndisabiye,  Makopa Rugabirwa and  Ian Greene, a 1:56.2 anchor leg by  Antoine Gisore wasn’t enough to combat the 1:52.8  by Francis Hernandez on the anchor for BG. The final leg saw opening splits of 24.x, 52.x and 1:23.x before a gap was opened up over the final circuit.  However, Gisore would have another shot at a memorable rematch with Hernandez, just 45minutes later in the 1000m run.

But next up was a stellar performance by Ndisabiye. Just 30 minutes after his leadoff leg of the 4x800m, Steven patiently worked his way up the fast moving pack in the 3000m run.  With momentum on his side, Steven took over 2nd place with a kilometer to go, and was only 3 seconds behind the leader with 400m remaining. Coming down the homestretch, Steven held on for 2nd in 8:57.0-- leading 5 men under 9minutes in the fastest 3000m race in New Hampshire history.

As the gun sounded in the 1000m, no one knew what to expect. After an opening quarter of 62.x, and 1:33.x through 600m, Gisore made a move for the lead, with Hernandez of BG hot on his trail. After a 28.x penultimate lap, it was a 2 man race. The bell was passed in 2:01.x, with Hernandez making the final move. Gisore hung on well for a spectacular 2nd place finish in 2:32.9, a second+ behind the winner.

Also finishing strong in the 1000m was Rugibirwa, who came home in 11th place, with a 2:47.0. A very respectable time for the Junior, as he garners the experience of doubling in his first major track championship.

Sophomores Greene in the 600m (1:30.4 P.R.) and  Keyan Riddell in the 300m (38.9) also fared well, coming home in 11th place each for their respective events.

The final race of the night for the Tide saw a team of Ndisabiye,  Chaz Munroe,  Mike Frappier and Gisore battle to a 9th place showing the 4x400m. Gisore completed his historic day with an incredible 51.3 anchor leg, as the distance quartet finished with a time of 3:42.9.

The 4x800m, as well as the individual performances by Gisore and Ndisabiye, qualifies each for the New England High School Championships, held March 5th in Boston.
