Blue Sox Sweep RailsJun. 24, 2009 The CV Blue Sox swept the visiting Roanoke Rails in a double header at Liberty University on Wednesday evening. In the first game of the evening, the Blue Sox were led by the pitching of DJ Turpin who went four innings giving up 2 runs on four hits and Ryan Litz who gave the home team the go ahead push with his first home run of the season. Also, Drew Elkins came into a bases loaded, no out situation in the sixth inning with the score at 5-3 and retired the next three hitters on a ground out, fly out and strikeout. Also contributing at the plate was David Gaines who went 2-4 with a double and John Dansby who went 2-3 with a double and a triple. In the second game of the evening, Trey Finch pitched four scoreless innings to give the Blue Sox the ability to stay in a game that was clearly a pitcher's duel until later in the game. The Rails scored three runs in the sixth to go ahead 3-1. At that point the Blue Sox had been held hitless with the exception of a single in the first inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Blue Sox scored two runs to tie it behind hits by Graham Thacker and Eric Conley , who were both driven in by a key double by Litz. The Rails responded in the top of the 7th with a home run from their big third baseman, Erik Helskey. The Blue Sox then came back in the bottom of the 7th to tie it when a fielder's choice from Brian Knowles scored Lucas Signor who had led off the inning with a single. After holding the Rails scoreless in the first extra inning, Conley led off the bottom of the inning with a double to deep right center field and was driven in with the winning run by a single off the bat of Tyler Coleman . That was Coleman's third hit of the night as he continued his strong showing at the plate this summer for the Blue Sox.
