News Article - Waterhead 24-12 Lions - Sep 8, 2009 A depleted Lions team battled strongly but were unable to come up with the 2 points on the opening day of the season at Waterhead. Simon Dingsdale opened the scoring for the Lions with some great support play after an incisive break from Sam Melia. Dingsdale converted his own try, but the home side were able to find touch off the kickoff and hit back with an unconverted try to make it 6-4. Phil Coakley extended the Lions' lead with a great solo effort, again converted by Dingsdale, but these would be the last points the visitors would score. Lions will take some positives from the game, but Waterhead took their chances better and were worthy winners.
