(3/5) - Round 2 of Chino Tourney
After Elsinore's 3-2 loss to Temescal Canyon in the opener, the Tigers are slated to play at Roosevelt H.S. on Monday, March 8 at 3:15pm. For Chino Tourney results and schedules, please go to: http://chinobaseball.blogspot.com/
(3/5) - Tigers dropped in opener, 3-2 by Temescal Canyon.
Elsinore played an intense, competitive game this afternoon against local rival Temescal Canyon HS. A large crowd was on hand to witness a playoff-type intensity rarely seen in opening games.
Zach Varela took the loss on the mound despite throwing 6.2 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs. Ethan Hattersley and Adrian Valencia had 2 hits a piece for Elsinore, who also saw Ricky Boas smash the first pitch of the year down the left field line for a double. Later in the game, freshman John Taurinsky got his first career hit by doubling down the right field line. Taurinksy narrowly missed another double in his next at bat as his line drive cleared the wall in right just past the foul pole.
Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the 6th, the Tigers rallied for 2 runs to even the score. Temescal tacked on a run in the top of the 7th, to earn the hard-fought 3-2 victory.
(2/18) - Home opener vs. Temescal Canyon.
The Chino H.S. Preseason Tournament first round pairings have been announced, and Elsinore will play host to Temescal Canyon HS at 3:15 on Friday, March 5.
( 2/11) - Alumni Game Re-scheduled.
Due to the rain last weekend, the annual Alumni Game has been re-scheduled for Saturday, February 20 at 10am.
(12/1) - Mens League Planned at Elsinore High School.
Plans are in the works for a Mens (18 and over) Baseball League to be hosted by Elsinore HS. The winter season would run on Sundays starting on January 24 for a total of 10 games per team. The last Sunday of play would be March 28. All games will be played at Elsinore High's Varsity and J.V. fields. Download and print a copy of the Adult League Flyer here.
Any proceeds generated from this league will go directly to enhance Elsinore Baseball's fund-raising efforts.
If you have a team interested in joining, please e-mail Head Coach Chris Jones at Coach@elsinorebaseball.com We are planning for a league to consist of 8-12 teams. The cost of the league will be $1,800 per team ($120 per player for a 15 player team). This will include field rental, insurance, umpires, and even game balls. The only thing teams will need to supply is their own choice of uniforms.
Please spread the word about our league, it would be a great thing for our program to be able to host these games and raise funds for our upcoming season.
Thanks, Coach Jones.
(11/22) - 2010 Varsity Schedule.
The 2010 (tentative) schedule has been added to this website. Click on the Schedule/Results link above to access our upcoming schedule. We have agreed with Temescal Canyon to play our opening round of the Chino Pre-Season Tournament vs. Temescal. Location is TBA, schedule is subject to change by the Chino coaching staff, but they have agreed to match our two schools up against one another for the opener.
(11/9) - New!! Parents Page.
After encountering many problems with attaching forms to this website, we have added a link (on the left) to the Elsinore Baseball Parents Page. This page will have all of the up-to-date forms for fund-raising, etc. Please check it out!
(6/10) - Jordan Drake Drafted by the Angels.
Elsinore senior Jordan Drake was selected in the 23rd round of the Major League Baseball Draft today by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Jordan had an excellent season for the Tigers, batting over .400, being named a unanimous selection to the First Team All Sunbelt League Team, and stealing 25 bases on the season.
We wish Jordan the best of luck in his professional baseball career. We'll be watching!
(5/19) - Playoff run ends abruptly.
The Tigers were eliminated from the playoffs today, 3-2 by Los Altos H.S. Los Altos benefitted from three unearned runs, and the Tigers just couldn't get the key hit to fall in, ending their season at 14-13 overall.
The playoff appearance this year made it the first time since 1990-91 that the Tigers had qualified for playoffs in back-to-back years. Thanks to all of the Seniors for a great ride, and we are already looking forward to what should be a excellent season next spring for the EHS baseball program which could easily include another playoff run (Dodger Stadium anyone?).
(5/6) - Three Games to go, three games up in 3rd place.
After some ups (an 11-4 win over previously unbeaten Hemet) and downs (2 losses to West Valley in 3 days) over the last few weeks, the Elsinore Tigers find themselves at 12-11 overall, and 7-5 in the Sunbelt League -- good for a 3 game lead in the battle for 3rd place and the final playoff spot.
The Tiger's magic number is 1 over West Valley and Lakeside who each sport 4-8 league records to date. Any win by the Tigers over their next 3 games or a loss by West Valley and Lakeside will secure the Tigers back-to-back playoff appearances.
A 3 game win streak by EHS combined with a Hemet sweep of Paloma Valley next week would see the Tigers finish in second place in the league for the second consecutive year.
The Tigers play at home tomorrow vs. Paloma Valley at 3:15. On Tuesday, May 12 Elsinore will play vs. Lakeside in Storm Stadium in their annual "Battle for the Oar". Gametime is 3:15. Please come out and support your Tigers!
(4/9) - Tigers win 7 in a row, meet #12 ranked Norco H.S. today.
After losing the Sunbelt League opener to Hemet (13-2), Elsinore has run off 7 wins in a row. Brief game recaps:
3/19 at Hemet. L, 13-2.
Timely hitting led Hemet to beat the Tigers by scoring their first 10 runs all with 2 outs in two different innings.
3/21 vs. Valley View (DH). W, 7-6. W, 5-4.
Elsinore won both games of the doubleheader vs. Valley View in exciting fashion. Ricky Boas singled through a drawn-in infield in the bottom of the 7th to drive in the winning run in game 1. Game 2 ended with a play at the plate, Nico Paculba threw out the potential tying run at home after fielding a base hit to center field. The ensuing throw and tag by Jordan Drake ended the game at the plate with Valley View inches away from tying the game.
3/24 vs. Paloma Valley. W, 5-4.
Elsinore snapped Paloma's Subelt League 17 game win streak with a walk-off hit by Jordan Drake. Zach Varela pitched a great game before and after allowing a grand slam which accounted for all of Paloma Valley's runs. Link to the "Californian" article here.
3/26 at West Valley. W, 5-2.
Steven Shatzer was excellent on the mound for the Tigers, allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits to defeat the West Valley squad.
3/31 vs. Lakeside. W, 9-8 (10 innings).
In the longest game of the year, Elsinore pulled off the win against the Lancers in the bottom of the 10th inning when Nico Paculba scored all the way from second base on a groundball hit by Ricky Boas. When Boas beat out the doubleplay ball, Paculba, who had been hustling all the way scored ahead of a throw at home to win the nip and tuck affair.
4/2 vs. Perris. W, 11-6.
An 8 run first inning highlighted by Jordan Drake's homerun far over the RF wall propelled the Tigers to their 6th win in a row.
4/8 vs. Norte Vista. W, 4-1. (Darryl Kile Tournament, Round 1)
Steven Shatzer was dominant again on the mound for the Tigers, allowing just 1 hit in 5 strong innings. Garrett Weathers worked 2 hitless innings of his own to earn his second save of the year. Elsinore scored all of their runs in the top of the 4th inning, sparked by Ricky Boas' leadoff triple to left-center.
4/9 at Norco H.S. (Darryl Kile Tournament, Round 2)
Elsinore will play Norco H.S. today at 4:00. Norco comes into the game with an 8-2 record, and is currently ranked #12 in the State of California. Rumored to be starting for Norco is Matt Hobgood, a potential first round pick in this year's MLB Draft whose fastball touches the low 90's. This is a great opportunity for the Tigers to match up against one of the best talents in the Nation. Good job Tigers, you've won 7 in a row and earned this opportunity!
(3/17) - Tigers Enter Into League Play With a Record of 1-4.... Sound Familiar?
Elsinore lost two more close games to complete the Foothill Tournament last week. On Thursday, it took La Quinta 9 innings to defeat the Tigers, 7-6. Zach Varela pitched 7 strong innings and provided some 2 out dramatics in the 7th, lifting a towering homerun to right-center field to tie the game. The Tigers scored once in the top of the 9th when Jordan Drake scored from second on an infield single, but La Quinta rallied for 2 in the bottom of the 9th.
On Saturday, the Tigers fought back from a 5-1 deficit entering the bottom of the 6th to tie the game at 5, only to see a 2 run homerun sink their efforts in the top of the 7th in dropping another heartbreaker to Arlington H.S.
Elsinore opens Sunbelt League competition on Thursday @ Hemet H.S. at 3:15. Hemet has looked strong opening the season, coming in with a 2-2-1 record which included a defeat of National Top 25 power Norco and a close loss to another perennial power, Riverside Poly on Tuseday.
Coach Jones: "We feel like we are pretty well prepared for the start of the league season. Our coaching staff has learned a lot about our players from facing stiff competition early in the season, and we feel like this will end up rewarding us as the season goes along. We believe in testing our team as much as possible in non-league games against the best competition we can find, this will end up serving us well in the end."
"Most of us remember that we started 1-4 last year and capped the season with a run to the CIF semi-finals. We feel like this team can be every bit as competitive as last year's team once all is said and done. Our overall record may not look like much, but we will be a tough out once again come playoff time. Our job now is to fight and claw to get ourselves back in the playoffs, and we do that by coming in the top 3 of our League. We feel that we may have some growing pains along the way, but we can be there in the end, and I will never bet against this program when it comes to playoff time."
(3/10) - 8 Run Inning Spoils Tiger Quest for Semi-Final Bid.
Elsinore gave up 8 runs in the 5th inning to relinquish a 5-1 lead in bowing to Beckman today, 10-8. Steven Shatzer provided the Tigers with an excellent starting pitching performance, allowing just 1 hit in 4.1 innings. Andrew Willis finished the day 3-4 with a 2B and 2 RBI while Blake Restad had 2 hits of his own to go with 3 RBI.
A win over Beckman today would have propelled the Tigers into the semi-final round of the Newport Elks Tournament. Instead, next up for Elsinore is another road trip, this time to LaQuinta of Westminster. Gametime is 3:00 on Thursday.
(3/7) - La Habra rolls in Tigers first road test.
Freshman Garrett Weathers struggled in his first Varsity start, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) in 1.2 innings and host La Habra never looked back, winning 10-3.
For Elsinore, Alan Schmutzer and Andrew Willis collected their first Varsity hits (Willis with a pich hit double in the 6th). Ricky Boas stole two bases in the top of the 1st inning and scored on a double steal play.
Next up for Elsinore is a game at Beckman H.S. on Tuesday.
(3/6) - Tigers win a close one on Opening Day.
Elsinore opened the 2009 season with a 4-3 win at home over Fullerton H.S. in front of a near-capacity crowd on Friday. Zach Varela threw a complete game in his Varsity pitching debut, allowing 5 hits and no walks.
Fullerton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Ficociello blooped a double down the LF line scoring Jefferson, who had led off the game with a single up the middle. Elsinore answered with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the first on a lead-off walk by Nico Paculba, an RBI double by Ricky Boas, and a sac fly by Zach Varela which scored Boas from third. Elsinore made the score 3-1 in the bottom of the 2nd when Steven Shatzer led off with a walk and Marshall Barath lifted a sac fly to the outfield to score Shatzer from third. Fullerton tied the score with an unearned run in the top of the third and another solo run in the top of the 4th which was driven in by a Brisbine double off the wall in left-center. Elsinore starter Zach Varela escaped a 1 out, 2nd and 3rd jam by inducing two straight pop outs to the firstbaseman. Elsinore finished the scoring in the bottom of the 4th when Nico Paculba's two out double off the right field wall scored pinch runner Alan Schmutzer from second.
Elsinore now travels to La Habra H.S. on Saturday for round 2 of the Foothill Tournament. Gametime is set for noon.

(2/16) - Golf Tournament - Our annual Golf Tournament was held on Friday, February 13 at noon at Summerly. Over 50 participants enjoyed an afternoon of golf and laughter - despite poor weather conditions. Approximately $2,000 was raised for the upcoming season. We'd like to say a sincere "Thank You" to all that participated as well as to the people at Summerly and especially to Mick Pagan - without his tremendous efforts this day would not have been pulled off.
(2/16) - The first three games of our Varisty's season opening tournament have been released. EHS will open the regular season at home vs. Fullerton at 3:00 on Friday, March 6. On March 7 we will travel to La Habra for a 12:00 game. On Tuesday, March 10 we will travel to Beckman H.S. in Irvine.
