MBMS Lightning XC and Track

We had another great meet last night at NOHS against Winder Barrow, OCMS and Athens Christian. Our girls got second behind ACS (96.5) with 77 points beating WBMS (31) and OCMS (2.5). Our boys got 3rd behind ACS (91) and OCMS (56) with 43.5 points beating WBMS. Individual winners for MBMS included Cole THornton in the 1600m with 5:17, Kawon Bryant in the 100m dash with an 11.47, Macy Banks in the Shot Put with a throw of 26'8", Kelly Willis in the High Jump with a height of 4'0", Jacqueline Truluck in the Discus with a throw of 71'2.5" and Carmen Williams in the long jump 15'1" and 200m dash with a time of 29.43. Our next meet is Friday night at Athens Christian for the Area Championships.

The MBMS boys and girls track teams won their meet last night, beating Athens Academy, Westside and Commerce.  The boys finished with 77 points and the girls finished with 93 points.  Event winners included Caroline Brown in the Long Jump(13'6"), Kawon Bryant in the High Jump(5'2"), 100m dash (11.5) and Hurdles (14.59), Rachel Cole in the girls Discus (62'11") and Hurdles (18.79), the 4x800 meter relay of Emily Measel, Mae McWhorter, Anna Alyssa McKoy and Mary Baker Carter, Olivia Pigg in the 1600m (6:01) and 800m (2:49), Cole Thornton in the 1600m (5:24) and 800m (2:26), the 4x400 relay team of Olivia Pigg, Caroline Brown, Dorie Faber and Emma Lowring and 4x400 relay team of Cole Thornton, Oscar Almanza, Andrew Quint and Connor Sibley.

Way to go Lightning Track and Field!  Girls placed 3rd with 72 points behind Stephens Co (73) and ACS (161) beating Winder, Westside, Haymon-Morris, Hillsman and Newrock.  Boys got 2nd with 73 points behind ACS (184) beating Stephens County, Winder, Westside, Haymon-Morris, and Hillsman!! For Full results click here.

Week of 2/17-2/24

Today: Practice at MBMS until 5; Order forms due today (no payment needed yet!)  

Thursday: Trials at NOHS for Long Jump, Triple jump, High Jump and Hurdles until 5:15ish; this is not mandatory. If your athlete is not interested in any of these events then he or she does not have to attend!! (Distance runners need to get in about a 30 min easy run; you may do this at NOHS or on your own!)  When they are finished with their events they may leave.  You are welcome to come and watch!  

Friday: Time Trials at NOHS for 100m dash, 400m dash and mile; We need to get your athlete timed in at least one of these events so attendance is mandatory!  Plan on this ending about 6 PM.  Again, feel free to come and watch!  **Trials are only to figure out placement in the events; we do not have cuts!  

Monday: your athlete will be issued a uniform top at school; we will not issue shorts unless requested; Practice will be at NOHS until 5:15  

Tuesday: Track Meet at Athens Christian School; we will leave directly from school because the meet will begin around 4:15; A bus will return to MBMS or your athlete may ride home with you from the meet.  I plan to send out assignments for this meet on Sunday or Monday!   

Wednesday: No Practice!

Ordering team gear is not mandatory.  This is not your uniform!!  These are items you can wear to school or to the meet while you are not running!

When we travel to NOHS, our athletes will be able to ride first load buses from MBMS so you will not have to worry about driving them to the high school.  Our assigned buses are routes 4,33, 34 and 35.  Please contact a coach if you have any questions!
