Sunday, March 25 - In their second game of the day in Lee's Summit, the Starlings faced KC Select's 'A' team, the Attack.  After struggling earlier in the day against KCS's 'B' team (the Storm), the Starlings were anxious to play a stronger game, despite the tougher opponent.  They did just that, giving the Attack all they wanted, especially in a competitive first half.  Eventually, the Attack pulled away late for a 7-0 win.  Despite the score, the Starlings should be encouraged by the improvement in their effort and play from their earlier game.

From the opening whistle, the Starlings came out with high energy and great effort in a back-and-forth game.  In the back end, Madison and Natalie J turned away several Attack shots -with help from the fowards, who showed tremendous effort getting back on defense.  On one particular play, Kintzli hustled back and sprinted clear across the field to block a close range shot, likely saving a goal.  AveryLeah, and Haley all came off the bench and matched the intensity in which the game was being played.  Leah had a couple of nice runs up the field, while Avery displayed her improving ball skill.  On one play, she made a couple quick turns with the ball, leaving Attack defenders in the dust, before sending it up the field to a teammate.  Mia A also played a strong game, making several nice runs towards the goal.  Brianna, who for the second time that day played some defense (for the first time), used her big leg to send the ball up the field, sparking the offense.  On one of her free kicks, Brianna blasted a great shot that glanced off the right goalpost and bounced wide of the goal.

Again, despite having several opportunities to score, the Starlings just couldn't break the seal on their opponent's goal.  In the end, the Attack came out with a 7-0 victory.  Even in the loss, however, there were many positive things to take away for the Starlings.  The team showed much better effort and play than they had against the Storm.  And despite giving up some late goals against the Attack, the team never gave up and played hard to the end.
