EAGLES EDGED BY FUTURA ARDENTE 1-0
Apr. 5, 2012
Saturday, March 31 - The Freebird Eagles took on the Futura Ardente last Saturday, determined to get their first win of the season. Whether it was the two-week layoff or the blistering heat, the Eagles struggled to get things going offensively. The result was a 1-0 upset at the hands of the upstart Ardente.
For the most part, the Eagles controlled the pace and flow of the game. They moved the ball up and down the field, led by an energetic Megan J. Ellie did a great job in goal, booming several punts past midfield to set off counterattacks. Defensively, they were solid in the back. But the same old bugaboo that has plagued this team the past few seasons reared its ugly head: the inability to finish on goal.
That said, there were several positives that the coaches took from the game. For the most part, the Eagles played hard and controlled the game. They also showed much better stamina than they had in their first game. With a strong week of practice, the Eagles hope to improve on their finishing ability. Up next is a trip to Lee's Summit this Saturday for a matchup against the SSC Chaos.
