SKYHAWKS RUN RECORD TO 5-1!

Sunday, May 13 - The Skyhawks traveled to Tiffany Springs Park on Sunday to take on a Futura Celtic squad who mathematically could still catch the Skyhawks in the standings.  This Mother’s Day contest became a somewhat intense battle as the game progressed.  The Skyhawks' early 2-0 lead was often in jeopardy as the Celtic found the net before half and then narrowly missed a couple of chances to tie the score.  In the end, however, the Skyhawks secured a 3-1 victory and gave their wonderful mothers something to smile about!

Similar to the week before, the Skyhawks jumped on the board with a goal in the first two minutes of the game.  This week there was a little bonus, however, when Abby K punched in her second goal of the contest in the fourth minute.  Solid play by forwards Hannah H and Britta created additional scoring opportunities that the Skyhawks just couldn’t quite finish on.  Jo Jo and Abby H worked to control the midfield at times and kept the pressure on as well while Megan H and Kennedy played rock-solid defense when the Celtic attempted to attack.

In the second half, the Skyhawks simply struggled to break free and add to their lead.  The Celtic put pressure on the Skyhawks defense on multiple occasions, but the team dug in their heels and maintained their 2-1 lead.  Aadyn was again amazing in goal as she secured a number of balls that found their way to her.  In addition, she showed a powerful leg as she punted the ball out to her teammates.  Katie and Lilli buckled down and looked determined to make sure the Celtic didn’t find the goal.  Physical play by Futura continued to repress Skyhawk drives until Abby K created some breathing room, completing a sweet hat trick in the 38^th minute.
