FURY AVENGE EARLIER LOSS TO SKYHAWKSMay. 22, 2012 Saturday, May 19 - On Saturday, the Skyhawks looked to score their second consecutive win over last fall's U7 champion, Lee’s Summit Fury. Earlier this season, the Skyhawks had traveled to Lee’s Summit and came away with a 3-1 victory, which led to a season-opening four-game winning streak. On this day, however, the Fury had other plans and finished off a dramatic come-from-behind win by scoring a goal in the last two minutes of the game. This 2-1 loss puts the Skyhawks in a battle to maintain their second-place position with one game remaining.
This fierce battle included two heavyweights going toe-to-toe. Both teams struggled to create momentum and found solid play from a number of players. For a significant portion of the first half, the Skyhawks found themselves with several opportunities to score. Unfortunately, they only came away with one goal, Hannah H's rocket shot that hit the crossbar and bounced down into the goal. This 1-0 lead lasted until the 37th minute when the Fury found the back of the net against a fatigued defense. Unfortunately, the Skyhawks could not move the ball forward on the kickoff. This allowed the Fury to keep the pressure on, and unfortunately, they found the back of the Skyhawks goal, sending the Skyhawks to a 2-1 loss.
