Arijit shines with a half century but Rattlers hold their nerve

RATTLERS beat GCC by 5 runs in a hard fought match where GCC had their nose ahead for the 35 overs but could not close out the game in the last 5 overs.

Aditya GCC captain won the toss and decided to chase in this vital league game. Rattler openers started sedately and negotiated the power play with out loosing any wickets. The break through was produced by Vishal in his first over of the spell and he went onto bowl two superb back to back overs. Aseem backed up the good spell from Vishal and also took 3 wickets in his spell. Vishal came back to pick another wicket to his tally. Ari, Aveg, Pammi picked up a wicket a piece to restrict the RATTLERS to 140 in the allotted 20 overs. The last 5 going for 45 runs including the last over that went for 12.

In response Sasi and Ari played out the power play overs with out loosing any wickets and kept up with the required run rate. But Sasi was dimissed for 13 off 20 balls and soon Adi who started with a glorious boundary was run out trying to steal a suicidal run from the call by Ari. Aveg joined Ari who was playing the best innings of the tournament so far with fluent shots with good defensive play when required. They forged a vital partnership and kept the innings going with shots all round the wicket.

With both batsmen in their 40's and with about 29 to get in 4 overs, GCC decided to take the power play, but they lost Aveg first on 42 off 35 which included two sixes and then soon after Arijit reached the milestone of half century with a glorious boundary he also perished trying to repeat the shot. Arijit was out for a very well made 53 off 48 balls with 7 boundaries. New batsmen in the crease Aseem and Pammi found it hard to rotate the strike with the Rattlers bowling excellent line and length.

With 11 needed off the last over, GCC managed to get only 5 runs and lost the match to RATTLERS by a margin of 5 runs.

For his excellent spell with ball in the finall overs and handy contribution with the bat, Ashwin Ravi from RATTLERS was awarded the MVP.
