The Club will be organising handicap competitions this year mainly based on Parkruns. All member of the club can have a handicap time – this is the time that you should complete a 5K 10K and half marathon. In order to get a time you need to submit a race time preferably for one of the above distances, but any distance will do as the times for all the distances above can be calculated from the time you submit.
For each of May, June and July a competition based on handicap times will be held. The best time for any Parkrun during each month will be used and the male and female members who have made the biggest improvement on their handicap time during that month will awarded a trophy as the winner. This means you have up to 5 opportunities in a month. At the end of the month the handicaps will be adjusted – it can be up or down depending on the best times achieved that month.
If you don’t have a handicap before doing a Parkrun then your handicap time will be based on your first Parkrun – of course you will still be eligible for the competition that month if you do another Parkrun.
In August there is a club handicap of about 10K along the Water of Leith and the handicap time will be used for this event so if you don’t have a time a Parkrun is a good opportunity to get a time.
