Dirtbags Bury Heavy Hitters, 8-1 The Heavy Hitters Baseball Academy could only manage one run Saturday morning at the 2011 USSSA Thanksgiving Shootout NIT against the Scottsdale Dirtbags, enroute to an 8-1 loss. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the third stanza, Ryan Hughes led off with an infield single. After stealing second base, Jaycob Bennett blasted a double off the left-center field fence, scoring Hughes. That was about the only highlight for Heavy Hitters other than we didn't commit an error. New recruit Josh Hu started on the hill for the Heavy Hitters and suffered the loss in his three and one-third innings. Hughes, David Gutierrez, Julio Avalos, and DJ Wyman also pitched. As a team, the Heavy Hitters struck out none and gave up 15 free passes (14 walks and 1 hit batsman) in the six inning game (time limit). The Heavy Hitters were outhit 9-4. Hughes had two hits, while Bennett and Wyman each had one. That's all she wrote...
