Bombers Bomb Firebirds, 15-4

Things went from bad to worse in the Firebirds second game of the 2012 USSSA Best of the West Tournament at Peoria Sports Complex Saturday afternoon. The Firebirds fell behind early and never recuperated losing 15-4 to the LC (Los Cruces, NM) Bombers.

The Firebirds fell behind, 11-0, before getting on the scoreboard. Newcomer Carlos Brancamontes drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fourth then David Gutierrez sent a 3-1 pitch deep to the left-center field fence, 380 feet away, to tally an inside the park home run. It was Gutierrez's second hit of the game. His first hit was a double in the first inning.

The Firebirds posted two more runs in the fifth inning to pull within seven, 11-4. Walks by DJ Wyman, Jared Kenyon. and Lucas Wyant loaded the bases for Trent Wohrle who scored Wyman after hitting into a fielders choice. Kenyon scored on a error by the Bombers shortstop.

Besides Gutierrez's two hits, the Firebirds managed just two more, a double by Ryan Hughes and a single by Brancamontes.

Wyman started on the mound for the Firebirds and picked up the loss. Wyant and Hughes pitched in relief.
