News Article - UMD Schedule Set for Santa Barbara Shootout - Feb 2, 2009

On the 12th of February the the UMD womens lacrosse team will fly to California for the 21st annual Santa-Barbara shoot out.

There they will be taking on the highly ranked 6th,13th and 22nd teams in the US, according to a college poll at laxpower.com

Their first game, Friday the 13th, they will be playing against the University of Georgia, ranked 13th at 4pm.

On Saturday, the 14th, the Bulldogs will play an early game at 9am against the University of Texas, who are ranked 22nd. Later on that day, they will play the University of Arizona at 4pm.

To end the tournament, on Sunday the 15th, the girls will play against Arizona State at 11:30 am and take on the 6th ranked team in the US, Santa Clara, at 2 pm.

News Article - UMD Scheduled to Play in 21st Annual Santa Barbara Shootout - Nov 22, 2008

   From Feb. 13-15, the UMD Women's Lacrosse team will be participating in the 21st Annual Santa Barbara Shootout, held in Santa Barbara, CA.  There are 8 different divisions.  UMD will be in the WDIA Game Division, the largest division in the tournament.  Some of the top teams that will be participating are Brigham Young, Cal Poly (7x National Champions), Colorado State ('08 National Champions), Lindenwood, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, UCLA, Michigan, and Texas A&M.  The team will be in California for five days.

News Article - UMD Names 2008-2009 Team Captains - Nov 22, 2008

  The University of Minnesota-Duluth Women's Lacrosse team has announced its captains for tKnokehe 2009 season.  They are seniors Laura Knoke, Tara Boos, and Nicole Mertz.

  Laura Knoke is from New Prague, MN and had never played until attending UMD.  This is her second year as the Defensive Captain and her fourth year playing.  Last season, she led the team in ground balls (41) and interceptions (39) and also created the most Boosturnovers.

  Tara Boos (midfield) is from Brooklyn Park, MN and played 4 years at Osseo H.S.  She is a senior but still has one year of eligibility left after sitting out the '06-'07 season.  She was unable to play because she attended The College of St. Scholastica but was still an officer for the team and practiced with the team all season.  This is also her second year as the Vice President and her 7th year playing lacrosse.Mertz

  Nicole Mertz (attack) is from Robbinsdale, MN and played 4 years at Totino-Grace H.S.  This is her eighth year playing and led the team in goals (48) and points (64).  She is also the Webmaster.

News Article - UMD accepted into the NCWLL as provisionary team - Nov 22, 2008

  Last month UMD was voted into the North Central Women's Lacrosse League as a provisionary team.  Provisional members have lower league dues, are not assigned to a conference, are exempt from playing a minimum number of games, are ineligible to make NCWLL playoffs or earn an Automatic Qualifier to the WDIA National Tournament from the NCWLL, and do not have voting rights.  Other provisionary teams are College of St. Mary's, Concordia (Moorehead), and MSU-Mankato.

  The NCWLL is one of 12 leagues in the Women's Division Bulldogs Lacrosseof Intercollegiate Athletics (WDIA).  There are 18 teams making up two conferences, Lakes and Plains, in the NCWLL.  It was formerly called the Upper Midwest Women's Lacrosse League (UMWLL).  UMD won the 2005 and 2006 UMWLL championships and particpated in the WDIA National Tournament.  Last year UMD was an independent team and was ranked 24 out of 210 teams in the WDIA.  They were one win away from earning a wild card bid to nationals.

News Article - Duluth Alumni Travel to Japan - Aug 31, 2008

 

     Two former Duluth lacrosse players traveled to Japan in June to play lacrosse.  The players were Julie Brandt, who played at UMD from 2005-2008, and Laura Hunt, who played at UMD from 2004-2007.  They traveled with the USA California Team and were the only players to represent Minnesota and the Midwest.  While in Japan, they played a total of 14 games and had a record of 13-1.
