May 16, 2013 - Storm 44 d. Tigers 16

 

      
  The "D & J Ford" Storm under 16s played Oberon Tigers at home in round three of the competition and after a close first half they overwhelmed the home side by 44 - 16 Wayde Egan scored first for the Storm with an evasive run in which he stepped two defenders to score under the posts. Sam Cameron's conversion saw the Lithgow side lead 6 - 0. An accurate kick from Cody Godden on the last was pounced on by Brad Compton in the next set of six for a good try and the Storm went to a lead of 10 - 0. Oberon took advantage of some good field position and soon replied with a converted try of their own to trail the Storm  6 - 10. Storm extended their lead before the break when straight running from Karl Wilson (15s) resulted in a try under the posts which was converted by Sam Cameron for a 16 - 6 lead at the break. Oberon opened scoring in the second half before Wayde Egan again took on the defenders near the line and proved too good in an excellent try that was converted by Sam Cameron to take Lithgow to a 22 - 10 lead. Darcy Allan made of lot of  metres throughout the game and was next scorer when he found a gap in the defence. Sam Cameron's conversion took the Storm to a 28 - 10 lead. Quick hands in the backs found winger Jacob Monaghan on the fly and he scored a great try in the corner to extend Lithgow's lead to 32 - 10. Wayde Egan capped an outstanding game for the Storm when he again stepped the defenders near the line for his third try and then was in the right place when Darcy Allan turned a good ball back inside  to Wayde for his fourth try. Sam Cameron kicked both conversions for a 44 - 10 lead to the Storm. Oberon scored a consolation try near full time for a final score and convincing win to the "D & J Ford" Storm under sixteens by 44 - 16.

May 7, 2013 - Storm account for Magpies in exciting match

The "D & J Ford" Lithgow Storm under 16s hosted the Cowra Magpies in round two of the competition and showed good tenacity to eventually win a see-sawing match 26-22.

Storm were first on the board after a well-timed pass from Darcy Allan found Emmanuel Kuban  and he scored after a strong run  to see Lithgow lead by 4 - 0 after the conversion hit the upright.

The Storm soon led by 10 - 0 after a nice off-load from Joel Cama found Wayde Egan and he was able to step the defence and score a good try and then convert.

Cowra controlled the rest of the half and were able to put on three tries of their own to lead by 14 - 10 at half time.

The "D & J Ford" Storm were first on the score board in the second half when good hands in the backs found Jye Gillespie running straight and he was able to reach out and score next to the posts. Sam Cameron kicked the conversion to see Lithgow leading by 16 - 14.

Cowra took the lead again when a chip-kick over the defence ended with a try and saw the Magpies lead 18 - 16 before Sam Cameron took on the defence near the line and he scored under the posts and then  converted to see the Storm lead 22 -18.

Cowra weren't finished however and they were able to score another try and level the scores 22-22.

Sam Cameron was able to put the kick-off dead from the restart and with time running out Storm spread the ball wide and Karl Wilson , playing up from 15s,  scored out wide for the Storm to win an exciting match 26 - 22.

Apr 7, 2013 - Group 10 Carnival - Oberon

The Lithgow Storm 16s travelled to Oberon to compete in the pre-season carnival and played two games, losing the first to Panthers 12-8 and drawing 12-12 with Orange CYMS. A third scheduled game with Cowra Magpies was not played when neither side could field a full side.

 

Try scorers for Storm were Emmanuel Kuban (2), Luke Davern, Daniel Griffin and Sam Cameron. Mitchell Case made plenty of metres and topped the tackle count whilst Cody Godden and Joel Cama both had good all round performances.

 

The Storm play Bayney Bears in round one at Blayney this Saturday, 13 th April.

Apr 5, 2013 - Season 2013

Nine teams will contest the Group 10 under 16 competition with the return of the Blayney Bears and Oberon Tigers to the competition.

Lithgow Storm play Blayney Bears at Blayney in round one at Blayney.

- Storm draw with Bears in Round 1

The Lithgow Storm under 16s travelled to Blayney for round one of the Group 10 competition and were able to fight back against the Bears to salvage a 28 - 28 draw after trailing by 22 - 10 in the first half.

Storm were first to score when Jye Gillespie exploited some weak defence out wide and was able to to score in the corner for a 4 - 0 lead. The Lithgow side put themselves under pressure from this point when a series of simple errors saw Blayney dominate posession and score the next three tries to lead by 16 - 4.

Storm scored next when quick hands found Daniel Griffin close to the line and he proved too quick for the Bear's defence. The conversion by Wayde Egan was successful and saw the Bears leading 16 - 10. Blayney scored again after a penalty close to the Lithgow line before Storm responded on the stroke of half time when Emmanuel Kuban was too strong from dummy half to see the Blayney side lead 22 - 14 at half time.

Storm scored first in the second half when Byron Wilson, playing up from the 14s, was too quick at dummy half and his try was converted by Wayde Egan to see the Storm trailing the home side by 22 - 20. Cody Godden then put the Storm in the lead by 24 - 22 with a try from dummy half before the Bears scored their only try of the half and reclaimed the lead 28 - 24.

The Lithgow side had the last say when Mitchell Case capped an outstanding game when he beat several defenders close to the line to level the scores 28 - 28. The conversion hit the upright for a final result of a 28 - 28 draw.

The Storm fight back was built on stronger defence in the second half in which Mitchell Case, Wayde Egan and Darcy Allan led by example.
