Lithgow Storm 15s played last years premiers St Pats in round one and despite a solid effort for most of the match eventually lost by 30 - 18. Storm were leading 18 - 16 with less than 10 minutes to go when St Pats were able to score three tries against the tiring Storm defence.

St Pats led early by 6 - 0 after a converted try  but Storm were able to respond after a good inside pass from Wayde Egan found Emmanuel Kuban and he was able to force his way over the line despite the attention of several St Pats defenders. Sam Cameron's conversion levelled the scores 6 - 6.

St Pats responded with a try after a scrum in the Storm quarter to lead 10 - 6 before another converted try through the backs to skip to a 16 - 6 lead.

Storm rallied at this point and after some good defence they forced a turnover and Darcy Allan was able to wrestle his way over for a try that was converted by Sam Cameron for a 16 - 12 lead to St Pats at the break.

The Storm comeback continued after the break and quick thinking from Chad Osland saw him snatch a try from dummy half close to the line and with Sam Cameron's conversion Lithgow led by 18 - 16.

The final ten minutes was all St Pats as a couple of simple errors and missed tackles from the Storm saw St Pats take full advantage and score three late tries to win by 30 - 18. Mitchell Case played an outstanding game and was voted player's player.

The Lithgow side has the bye in round two before playing last year's runner's up Bloomfield in round three.
