The Las Vegas Desert Crush Baseball team lost a hard fought game against the Nevada Wildcats 7-6 in seven(7) innings of the Red, White, and Blue Championship held at the Las Vegas Dreams Park. The Crush fell behind 4-0 after the first inning but came back in the second to gain the lead 5-4 when Chris Dunn walked, Clayton Johnson and Bronson Duckworth reached base on fielding errors with Dunn scoring, Trevor Jackson walked, Clayton Johnson was called out at home plate, Christopher Opolka doubled in Jackson and Duckworth, Beau Capanna singled and scored Opolka, and Spencer Faught singled and scored Capanna. The Wildcats came back at tied the score at 5 apiece in the third inning and went ahead 6-5 in the fourth inning. The cCrush tied the scored at 6-6 in the fifth inning when Spencer Faught doubled and moved to third on a balk. Faught scored on a RBI single by Bryce Piro. The Wildcats won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning after having back to back singles and a runner scoring from third. Overall it was a great tournament for the kids and we all should be proud of our accomplishments.
The Las Vegas Desert Crush baseball team defeated the LV Crusaders 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Red, White, and Blue Tournament held at the Las Vegas Dreams Park. The Crush are 5-0 in the tournament and will face the Nevada Wildcats in the finals at 12 noon (Wrigley Field). The game was highlighted by two insiide the park homeruns by Beau Capanna and Trevor Jackson .
The Las Vegas Desert Crush Baseball Team finished pool play of the Red, White, and Blue Tournament 4-0 with wins over the LV Crusaders 5-2 and the LV Elite 10-9. The Crush will be the 2nd seed in the Semi-finals and will face the LV Crusaders at 8am. Bryce Piro started on the mound against the Crusaders, pitching a no-hitter for four innings before allowing three hits and two runs in the fifth inning. Beau Capanna pitched in relief and closed out the game. The game was highlighted by an inside the park homerun by Spencer Faught. Trevor Jackson and Dante Roberts each went 2 for 3 in the game with Jackson scoring twice and Roberts having an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. Clayton Johnson also had a single and RBI in the fourth inning.
In the second game against the Elite, Christopher Opolka started on the mound for the Crush and pitched three solid innings. Beau Capanna pitched in relief, recorded the win, and Bronson Duckworth pitched to the final batter and secured the one run win. The game was highlighted by a three run inside the park homerun by Chris Dunn who hit a solid shot over the Elite right fielders head and beat the relay home. Spencer Faught went 3 for 3 in the game, Beau Capanna went 2 for 3, Trevor Jackson , Clayton Johnson , Christopher Opolka , Bryce Piro , and Richard Coughlin had 1 hit apiece. Dante Roberts added an RBI in the 2nd inning on a fielders choice to right field to score Spencer Faught . The Crush secured the 2nd seed by going 4-0 in the tournament and will play the Crusaders in the semi-finals. Go Crush!
The Las Vegas Desert Crush Baseball Team started the Red, White, & Blue Tourney 2-0 by handily beating the LV Badgers 10-2 in the first game and beating the LV Bandits 18-9 in the second game. Spencer Faught started on the mound against the Badgers and threw four (4) solid innings allowing only three hits, two runs ( 1 earned), and striking out four. The game was highlighted by a two run home run by Beau Capanna and hits by Christopher Opolka , Trevor Jackson , Spencer Faught , Bryce Piro , Dante Roberts , Chris Dunn , and Clayton Johnson . Spencer Faught and Beau Capanna had three RBI's apiece, while Chris Dunn , Dante Roberts , and Christopher Opolka added RBI's each. In the second game, against the Bandits, the Crush erupted for thirteen runs (13) in the first inning to take a 13-2 lead after falling behind 2-0. The entire line-up scored with Trevor Jackson , Christopher Opolka , and Beau Capanna scoring twice in the inning. Nick Melinchok started on the mound for the Crush and recorded the win, striking out four batters, walking three, and pitched efffectively despite allowing nine runs (2 homeruns, including a grand slam and a two run HR). Bronson Duckworth pitched in relief to close out the Bandits. Chris Dunn had two RBI's in the game with a single and a double. RBI's were also recorded by Beau Capanna , Dante Roberts , Spencer Faught , and Nick Melinchok . Overall, the Crush team really made a statement with their bats and positive attitudes and play. Some interesting facts about the games are that the first seven batters of the line-up (batted nine each game) accounted for 24 of the 28 runs that were scored and several players batted .400 or better ( Beau Capanna 6 for 6, 1.000 (HR, 2- 2B, 3-1B); Christopher Opolka 4 for 5, .800; Dante Roberts 3 for 4, .750 (also HBP, BB); Chris Dunn 3 for 6, .500; Spencer Faught 2 for 5, .400; Clayton Johnson 2 for 5, .400; and Trevor Jackson 3 for 4, .750 (2-2B, 1-1B) for a team batting average better than .450. Ten of our eleven players scored at least one run in the tournament and the Crush team stole 18 bases in the two games without bunting a single batter. The Crush scored the 28 runs on 25 hits. The Crush also welcomed Coach Lester Douglas (Former LA Dodger and Club Ball Coach) along with player Richey Coughlin (LV Fury). Great Job Coaches and Crush Team!
The Las Vegas Desert Crush baseball team suffered its second loss to the Nevada Wildcats 8-0 in the MLK Dreams Tournament semi-finals in a game that was played in wet and rainy conditions. It was the third time that the Crush have faced the wildcats (0 for 3) and the second time that the teams have met in the semi-finals of a tournament. Despite the rain, the Desert Crush continued to struggle with the bats against the wildcats and had only three hits in the game which came off of the bats of Trevor Jackson , Dante Roberts , and Christopher Opolka . Dylan Orlando (1- 1) started on the mound for the Crush and Spencer Faught pitched in relief. The Crush will resume Doing the Work in preparation for their next tournament. Let's go Crush!
The Las Vegas Desert Crush baseball team completed pool play of the MLK Dreams Tournament 2-1-1, after opening day one with a 2-0 recodrd, the second day came with a loss to the Nevada Wildcats and a tie with the Badgers. The Crush moved on to the playoff round and will await their seeding for an 8am game to played at Mission Hills. In the first game of the day, the Nevada Wildcats beat the Crush 12-2 on a solid pitching performance by Wildcat pitcher, Zach B., who fustrated the Crush batters and gave up no hits. The highlight for the Crush came in the 5th inning when Beau Capanna hit an inside the park home-run. The only other hits of the game for the Crush came off the bats of Spencer Faught and Trent Bixby . Trent Bixby started on the mound for the Crush and suffered the defeat giving up six hits, striking out two, and allowing five runs. Nick Melinchok and Bronson Duckworth pitched in relief and allowed seven runs on eight hits. In the second game of the day, the Crush had another heated game with the scrappy badgers that ended in a 3-3 tie after seven (7) innings. The game was marked by some close and controversial calls and Badger player Jeff Griffith was ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct (profanity) after he was called out at the plate on a great throw by outfielder Dylan Orlando and tagged by catcher Spencer Faught to complete a double play. The Crush twice had opportunities to win the game, in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, but came up short. The Crush finished pool play 2-1-1 and will be seeded third in the semi-finals on Monday at 10am vs. Nevada Wildcats. Let's Go Crush! Do the Work!
The Las Vegas Desert Crush 12U baseball team opened the 2010 season 2-0, with wins over Team Bat-r-up 3-1 and The Crusaders 8-4, in the Martin Luther King Dreams tournament. Crush new comer, Dylan Orlando pitched three solid innings in the first game, striking out four and allowing only two hits, and got his first win as a member of the Crush. Nick Melinchok pithed in relief, allowing one hit. The second game was a hard fought battle with the Crusaders with the Crush pullng away late to get the win. The Crush jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and the Crusaders tied the game at 3 apiece after two innings. The game was tied at 4 going into the fifth inning when the Crush scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game. Bryce Piro started on the mound for the crush (no decision) and Spencer Faught came in, pitched three innings and recorded the win. Beau Capanna (2)and Spencer Faught each had doubles along with hits by Trent Bixby, Bryce Piro, and Christopher Opolka. The Crush will next face the tough Nevada Widcats on Sunday, 8am, at the new Las Vegas Dreams park and they will face the Badgers at 2pm. Let's Go Crush!
