News Article - Macon, Craven to Meet for District IV Playoff - Apr 26, 2010 After clinching a playoff berth with a win over Furman last Saturday, Macon State will meet Craven Community College in Union, SC for the District IV playoff.
News Article - Emory game 3 - Mar 22, 2010 The Mustang’s stayed hot, and had an amazing pitching performance to pick up the sweep of Emory University. Macon State would once again jump on the Emory pitchers quickly to take a big early lead. They would continue to hit well threw out the day and pick up a 14 to 0 victory. Joey Wood pitched all seven innings only giving up 3 hits while striking out 13. Joey Jones led the team at the plate going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s, 1 double, 1 run scored and 1 sacrifice fly. Jake Wood also finished the day going 3 for 4 and 1 RBI. J.P. Mitchell, Tyler Sailors, Michael Avery, Austin Duckworth, and Brandon Byram each finished with 2 hits. Patrick Goodman and Kurt Thornburg each finished with one hit on the night. Joey Wood had a solo Home Run in the top of the 7th. The sweep gives them a nice lead in their Conference. This sends the Mustangs record to 7-2 (5-1 district 4 west).
News Article - Emory game 2 - Mar 22, 2010 In the 2nd game of the series it was all Macon State. They would explode with a 10 run 3rd inning and would never look back. Emory would never get any offence going until they put up 4 runs in the 7th but by then the game was long out of hand and the Mustangs would win 12 to 8. Joey Jones would go all 7 innings while striking out 10 to pick up the win. Tyler Sailors would lead the team at the plate going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, 4 RBI’s, 3 runs scored, and 1 walk. Jake Wood also finished the game with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. Joey Wood, Brandon Byram, J.P. Mitchell, Michael Avery, and Kody Patrick would finish the game with one hit.
News Article - Emory game 1 - Mar 22, 2010 The Mustangs would look to put some distance between themselves and the rest of District 4 West as the welcomed district rival Emory University to town for a three game series. Macon State would fall behind 3 to 0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd when 1st Baseman Michael Avery would blast a three run homerun over the right field fence to tie the game up. The Mustangs would again fall behind and would be down 7 to 3 heading into the 6th inning. Avery would lead off the bottom of the inning with a walk and then would move up on a pass ball. Austin Duckworth would then drive him in on a single. Kurt Thornburg would the hit a two run homerun over the left field fence to pull the Mustangs within one run. Joey Jones would draw a walk and would be followed by a two consecutive outs. J.P. Mitchell would then double to tie the game, and Tyler Sailors would come up with a big single to bring in Mitchell to cap off the inning with 5 runs and push the Mustangs into the lead 8 to 7. Macon State would be able to hang on for the final three outs and win the game. Brandon Byram got the start and went 5 and 2/3 innings striking out three and only giving up 2 earned runs. Sailors would pick up the win in relief going 1 and 1/3 innings while striking out three, giving up one walk, and one hit. Mitchell led the team at the plate going 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, 1 run scored, and 1 hit by pitch. Sailors and Jake Wood each finished the game with two hits.
News Article - UTC game 3 - Mar 22, 2010 Macon State would look to pick up the sweep going into game three, but walks and errors would plague a tired mustang team and they would fall 16 to 4 in a run rule shortened game. Starting pitcher Joey Jones would get the loss going two innings while striking out 4, but walking 6. Kurt Thornburg led the team at the plate going 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and one run Scored. J.P. Mitchell, Devon Crouse, Austin Duckworth, Patrick Goodman, Jones, and Joey Wood would each finish the game with one hit. Kody Patrick would finish the game with 1 RBI. This weekend would send the Mustangs record to 4-2 (2-1 district 4 west).
News Article - UTC game 2 - Mar 22, 2010 The Mustang’s bats would stay hot as they would jump out to an early lead by putting up seven runs in the first two innings. They would have to however have to hold off UTC in the last couple of innings. The game would come down to the final at bat as closer Tyler Sailors was able to strike out UTC lead off batter with the tying run on 2nd base. This would give the Mustangs a 10 to 9 victory. Joey Wood got the win pitching 5 innings and striking out five. Tyler Sailors would get the save pitching 1 inning and striking out two. Jake Wood stayed hot at the plate having another three hit game and driving in three more RBI’s. Devon Crouse would also finish the game with three hits. Austin Duckworth, Sailors, Kurt Thornburg, and Joey Wood would all finish the game with two hits.
News Article - UTC game 1 - Mar 22, 2010 Macon State would make the trip up to Chattanooga, TN to take on the Division 1 UTC Mocs. The Mustangs would start the game off slow and would go into the top of the 4th facings a 3 to 1 deficit before the bats would wake up. The Mustangs would go on the put up four runs in the 4th, one run in the 5th, nine runs in the 6th, and would finish off with one more run in the 7th to end the game by a run rule of 16 to 6. Brandon Byram would get the complete game victory striking out seven in seven innings. J.P. Mitchell led the team at the plate going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s, 3 runs score, and drew two walks. Jake Wood, Austin Duckworth, and Byram would all finish the game with 3 hits each.
