Due to soggy field conditions and concern for player safety, there will be no Madison LAX today.

MHL families should be VERY proud of how well our 10U and 14U teams represented the League in the 2013 Shooters ISPN Annual Inline Tournament in Richmond yesterday. Here's a recap:

The 10U team got off to a strong start and never looked back. The team was led by Brayden and Ethan, who each scored several early goals and then focused on defensive play and setting up the younger players with beautiful passes. Cole was the overall scoring leader (since Brayden and Ethan were held back by the coaches from scoring too many goals). Jacob also scored quite a few goals. The youngest player on the team, Andrew, scored several goals as a forward and also became a "brick wall" in two games as goalie. Kennan did a great job as a defender as well as a forward, picking up several goals. Mitchell was the primary goalie, making save after save to lead his team to the championship. The 10U team came away with gold medals for their hard work.

The 14U team faced exceptionally tough competition. They played the Rattlers Orange/Black team, which is an experienced travel team. The Shooters house teams also featured several travel players and much more depth on the bench than MHL could field. However, the MHL team fought hard in every game and earned the respect of their opponents. Wyatt, Ethan, Cole, Spencer, Bobby, Bailey and Brayden picked up their speed, passing, and shooting in each successive game. Riley made fabulous saves to keep our team in every game. Our team didn't come away with medals, but they did come away with greater skill and readiness for tough games than ever before.

Please congratulate these players on their tremendous effort in this tournament!

There will be NO activities at the rink this Sunday, April 7. Lacrosse and Tournament Team practice will begin Sunday, April 14.

Congratulations to Ashton Weakley for being selected to receive the 2013 Founders Award! The recipient of this prestigious award is selected by the Board for demonstrating the MHL values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication over many seasons of participation.

Ashton was selected by his teammates as Captain of the SR Lightning this season and led his team to the finals. He always puts out 100% when he's on the rink and encourages his teammates to do their best as well. Ashton is a Junior at Madison County High School and plays Varsity Football and Baseball.

MHL has been invited to play in Richmond against their house league teams. The league is run by RK Kent, the pro player who conducted our inline camp last fall. RK is setting up a one-day event (similar to the one we play against Fauquier) to be held on Sunday, April 28 at Shooters, an indoor rink in Midlothian.  

Each team will play at least three games, and the fee will be about $20 per player. Participation is open to all registered MHL players. Our teams will practice on April 7, 14, and 21 at 5:30PM.  

I think our players will have a lot of fun playing in this event! Shooters is a great facility, with lots of activities to keep siblings entertained and comfy seating for fans.  

Please let me know by April 1 if your player wishes to participate. And don't forget to register for Spring Season! It starts April 3.

Madison Parks and Recreation is now accepting registrations for Spring Hockey and Lacrosse. The fee is $35 for each sport or $50 for both for all ages. Hockey will be held on Wednesday evenings and Lacrosse will be held on Sundays.
