News Article - 2008-2009 Bulldogs Recognized as a Bulldog Moment - May 15, 2009

KENT, WA  --  Last year, Mill Creek Principal Anthony Brown began a tradition of recognizing great moments in Mill Creek history to help share the amazing achievements of students and staff with all those who walk the hallways of Mill Creek.

During the recognition ceremony and unveiling of the 2008-2009 Boys Basketball Championship Banner, Mr. Brown awarded the team with this great honor by stating, "Mill Creek Middle School opened in 2005.  As with any new school we had new students, staff, and a new athletic program.  From the very first year the school opened everyone could tell that the basketball team had talent, but the talent needed a little polishing.  None of the basketball players were used to playing together, and they needed to build a fundamental foundation as a team because they were so young.  Every year that passed, it was clearly visible that the Mill Creek basketball team was heading in the right direction.  The Mill Creek basketball team was getting better and better.  Slowly, it was evident that they turned the fundamental foundation they had built over the first couple years of the program into a tradition of winning, hard work, and a team that fostered respect for themselves and demanding respect from their opponents.  Their 2008-2009 season was uplifting and extremely exciting to watch and that was obvious by the show of support by parents, students, and staff.  They are one of the first championship teams in Mill Creek history and they brought the very first championship banner to Mill Creek.  Congratulations."

A plaque with the same commemorative inscription read by Mr. Brown to the team will appear in the hallway as visitors enter the school.  The 2008-2009 season will also be recognized in the newly refurbished Mill Creek Gymnasium with a championship banner.

News Article - Bulldogs One Win Away from a Championship - Jan 20, 2009

MAPLE VALLEY, WA  --  The Mill Creek Bulldogs continued to defy all odds and keep their hopes for a league championship alive by defeating the Tahoma Gold Bears 58-40 on Tuesday night.  After looking sluggish during the first quarter, the Bulldogs pulled away in a dominating team performance.  While Anthony Tisch continued to watch from the sidelines due to a torn ACL, all other 12 Bulldogs were able to get in on the action.   Martel Taylor-Barone led all scores with 17 points and 23 rebounds, while Cartez Green (2 pts, 3 assists), Henry Hammond (4 pts, 2 stls), Harkaran Hans (2 pts), Sean Guilmet (2 pts), Kyle Engman (2 pts, 2 rebs), Randall Cooper (2 pts), Jordan Batang (4 pts), Timmy Cordova (4 pts, 5 rbs) Aiden Turner (9 pts, 3 stls) Abu Kamara (10 pts, 7 rbs, 3 steals), and Austin Brenner (3 rbs) all contributed in the victory.

In other league action, Cedar Heights defeated Meeker, meaning that Mill Creek and Cedar Heights are tied at the top of the league standings.  However, Mill Creek defeated Cedar Heights when they played each other at Cedar Heights on December 16.

Mill Creek faces the Northwood Jaguars in their final game of the season on Thursday at Northwood.  A victory ensures the Bulldogs of their first league championship in the school's four year history.

News Article - Mill Creek Sweeps Meridian - Jan 15, 2009

KENT, WA  --  The Bulldogs posted their second victory of the season against the Meridian Monarchs, 45-26.  Taking a six point lead into the start of the second quarter, outstanding inside play combined with pressure defensive allowed the Bulldogs to outscore the Monarchs 15-3.  The Bulldogs never looked back as they accumulated 38 rebounds on the night.

The victory keeps Mill Creek in a three way tie for first place with Cedar Heights and Meeker, who play each other next Tuesday, 1/20/09.  The Bulldogs will play the Bears of Tahoma Gold.

With only two games remaining in the season, the Bulldogs can guarantee themselves at least a share of the league championship if they win both of their remaining two games.
