Pimienta defeat Monarchs 12-2 in Opening Day RompMay. 6, 2012 Coming off of their best regular season (10-6) in franchise history, the Monarchs opened up the 2012 season against Western Division powerhouse Pimienta at 4:00PM today. The Monarchs lineup for today is much different than the everyday lineup they put out on the field last season. Veteran Monarch left fielder Aaron Brown was unexpectedly traded this past offseason to Border Blockers Softball out of Dallas, Texas. The trade allowed GM Reggie Reynolds Jr. to call up top OF prospect Matt Tremback, who would start today and bat 6th against Pimienta. When asked about the Brown trade Reynolds Jr. was quoted as saying, "Aaron Brown is like Ol' Yeller. Someone needs to put dat old dog out of his misery."
The Monarchs were also missing TJ Chiganos, Nick DiCianni, Doug Lasota, today. Filling in were AAA Hammond Hammer prospects Luke Mroz (C) and Brian Traynor (Util). The visiting Monarchs were unable to get anything going in the first or second, but Pimienta put several runs up on the board due to Monarchs' errors. Joe Sawicki pitched great considering this was his first start since offseason shoulder surgery. Most of Pimienta's runs could be attributed to pour defense played by the Monarchs.
The few Monarchs highlights included a solo home run to center field by leadoff man Bobby Solomon in the third. Newcomer Luke Mroz also had a RBi double in the fourth inning. The Monarchs will go for their first win of the season when they play JKBB next Sunday at 4:00PM.
