Oct 28, 2012 - Rebels are Scotiabank Cup 2012 Champions!
Impressive weekend play by the major atom Rebels at Mississauga Northstars' Scotiabank Cup. Round robin victories displayed a stunning total of 21 goals for and only 2 against. The scene was set for a northern semi-final showdown vs. the North Bay Trappers. A shoot-out was needed to determine a winner after regulation and 5 minutes of OT left the teams deadlocked at 2. It was the Rebels who captured victory with 2 straight shootout goals and two spectacular saves by net minder Alex Rheaume. After the dramatic win Nickel City set their focus on a repeat match-up from last year's Scotiabank Cup. The Rebels jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first shift of the game but soon after the hard forecheck of the Goldenhawks enabled a comeback that expanded to a 4-2 lead by the end of the second period. With time running down and Nickel City looking tired they still somehow managed a comeback charge and ended regulation tied at 4. With determined play in overtime, the Rebels finished what they wanted to accomplish one year earlier by defeating the West Hill Goldenhawks in the final. Congratulations boys on your well deserved championship win and "owning the moment".
Oct 7, 2012 - Champions in Markham!
The Rebels grinded out 6 straight wins to capture the Markham Majors AAA Fall Classic this holiday weekend. It was an inspired effort by all players, especially on Sunday when faced with a grueling 3 game schedule in less than 6 hours. The Rebels won their championship game 4-2 vs. the hard forechecking Whitby Wildcats. Congratulations boys!
Sep 24, 2012 - Nickel City Rebels Show Well
The Nickel City Rebels displayed great character and skill this past weekend in London, Ontario at the Jr. Knights early bird AAA tournament. The Rebels finished round robin play with a 2-1-1 record and very narrowly missed the semi-finals. It came down to a nail biting 5-5 game vs. Guelph that sealed the Rebel's fate for the weekend. The boys learned a lot from their first AAA tourney of the season and are anxious to improve on their performance next month in Markham. Great work boys!
