Bogaert nets winner as Mooretown nips Petrolia 2-1

Box Score

Nov. 6, 2009

On a rare Thurs. night matchup Mooretown took on Petrolia at the Moore Sports Complex.  Petrolia came out and took the play to the Storm in a hard hitting first period.  On the power play, Ricky McPhail scored for Petrolia half way through the first on a rebound from a Brendan Trottier shot.  Petolia out shot the Storm in the 1st by a 5-3 margin.  After the normal slow start for Mooretown, they showed a little more jump in the second and controlled much of the play.  The Storm got on the board with Kyle Smith getting a marker from just inside the blue line with a hard wrister.  Assisting on the play was Alec Segers with some hard work along the brick wall to free up Kyle on the one on one.  The teams ended the second tied at 1.  Mooretown out shot the visitors in the second by a margin of 9-3.  The chippy affair moved into the third and with 4 minutes remaining Trevor Bogaert found the back of the net on a 4 on 3 power play.  Starting the play was a hard shot from Colton Osborne that went off the end boards to Eric Walsh, who then centered a nice pass to Trevor who buried the shot from the slot.  Mooretown ended up hanging on late in the 3rd with a couple of close calls going through the Storm crease.  Nolan Nicholson played a good game in net turning aside 15 Oiler shots in the victory.  Mooretown managed 25 shots at the Petrolia netminder.  Again the Mooretown D (Derek, Brett, Lukas, Colton and Zack) rose to the occasion, not giving Petrolia many odd man chances and taking a lot of hits from some good, hard skating Petrolia forecheckers.  Kyle Smith took a trip to the emergency room late in the game with a knee injury after sliding awkwardly into the boards, hopefully all is well.  Good work Storm, another tough test on Sun. with the front running Blenheim squad coming to Mooretown.  I'm hoping everyone comes to the rink ready to play as a better start to games is needed from all.
