Irish Too Much in Rout of St. Matthews Comming off a sloppy win against Xavier the Irish looked to rebound in a big way against St. Matts, and they did. The 59-27 thumping started a little slow for the Irish as they only had an 11-10 advantage after the first quarter, but once good luck charm Mark Douglas entered the gym it was all over for the blue and gold of St. Matthews. In the second quarter the Irish really clamped down on defence lead by All-CYO Defensive 1st team player Joe Douglas only allowing three points for the quarter and forcing a barage of turnovers to give the Irish a 29-13 lead headed into the half. Even though swingman Matt Sullivan was hurt for most of the second half and Joe Chiappara missed the entire game due to a hunting accident in which he was stabbed in the buttocks by the antlers of a white-tailed deer the Irish played even better in the second half expanding their lead to 32 and comming home with the easy victory. The Irish were lead by JC Laughlin who put up a career best 14 points and played inspired basketball with his girlfriend looking on(must have had a good time with her the night before the game

Irish Defence Sufficates Crusaders After an extremely dissapointing loss to Holy Family last week which saw the Irish play very slugish St. V looked to rebound in a big way against highly favord St. Mary. The game started out great for the irishas they took an early lead and were tied at the end of one. After the second the irish took a one point lead into halftime and clearly had the crusaders frustrated. The second half was no different as the irish pestered the crusaders on the defenceive end and slowly distanced themselves from st. mary on the scoreboard. The end of the game got a little ugly as the crusaders and there coach lost there composure which ultimatley proved to be there downfall as the Irish took home the victory with a 39-32. The Irish were lead by big man Randy Goldinger with 21, Abregg with 4, Sullivan with 6, Douglas with 4, and Fox with 2 and Gilbride with 2. Next up for the Irish is St. Francis Xavier.

Irish Head to the Quarter Finals The Irish played a sloppy game against Holy Family in the first round, missing 14 free throws. The Irish scored 61 in the first round in a dominant game. Leading scorers were Bill with 18, Joe D with 14, and Matt with 11. In the second round the Irish played a physical game against a team that was bigger and stronger than them. St Matthews boasted Hoban's starting quarterback, strong safety, and nose guard. In the first quarter the Irish started slow falling to 10-12 after the first. In the second quarter the Irish thoroughly outplayed the Irish but were down six after two quick threes by St Matt. Third quarter was much about even until Graydon heaved from half at the buzzer to put The Irish up one. The fourth quarter was the ultimate show of the Irish will to win. It was a close game throughout the fourth, but the Irish never gave away the lead. With the Irish up two with less than a minute left Tommy the sure fire free thrower went to the line for a 1-1. With a heartbreaking thud he missed the first free throw and with it struck fear into the Irish hearts. With lock down D the Irish forced a turnover and Graydon went to the line. He split the pair and with 6 seconds left St. Matts had the ball, down three. Tom tipped the inbounds pass and they heaved an ugly shot that didn't touch rim. Ballgame. Next up the cocky cocks from St. Sebastian.
Hey Arnold Heartbreak The Irish went into the weekend with full knowledge they would be without Big Bill, but the surprise came when A Cip got arrested on a DUI before gametime. As the game began the Irish had just five players and no subs to help them in this one. The first quarter was a disappointment to say the least as the Irish were outscored 14-2. The long and lean Joe Cook scored all of the Irish points in the first. The second quarter was a different story though as the Irish began to claw there way back into the game. The Irish outscored St. Joes 14-11 to cut the deficit to 25-16. In the third Tom and Graydon hit some big threes to answer the endless barrage of threes St. Joes was raining upon them. They went into the fouth with confidence and a deficit small enough to overcome. Matt and Joe D knew they had to bare the scoring on there shoulders, as Jesus bared the cross. In the final minutes the Irish were in striking distance. Down two without the ball and a minute left Joe D made a terrible mistake fouling Tenney. He went to the line and knocked 'em down. The Irish never got closer then that until the final moments when Graydon hit a three to end the game 44-43 in a loss. Matt did best he could trying to help the team win scoring 17, Joe D had 12, Tom and Graydon added six, and Joe Cook had 2.
