Royal Silvertails out in force at Garden IslandMay. 15, 2011
A dozen or so Royal Silvertails and the same number of “closet” Silvertails took to Garden Island on Sunday in a massive time trial event arranged by BWA. 1000 individually timed competitors braved easterly cross winds and impending rain to complete 1, 2 or 3 laps of the flat & fast 35km course.
The Royal Silvertails once again saw their fortunes in the B Grade with all except two of the Silvertail riders dropping back from their over-ambitious A Grade entries. Fresh from their 3 Dams exploits, the flat course suited the build of Dapper & Macca who managed a true to “Nitro & Glycerine” form =5th finish (from 439 B Grade finishers) in 1:54. Skip seems to have become lost before new Silvertail Andrew Johnston came in just after the hour at 2:01 with Jamie Ogilvie and Marshall Allen just behind. Buz, The Cougar & Leakie rolled in not long after with respectable times, particularly as Secretary Leaker was sporting a wafer-thin pair of “shared” nicks. King Richard “The Lion-heart” Whittaker and Waroona recruit Glenn Mathieson where the only Royal Silvertails to brave the A Grade distance and managed creditable 108 & 122 in a very fast field of 343. Credit should go to the BWA guys for putting on a fantastic show and for the hospitality of the Safety Bay Primary School and their P&C for their hospitality !
