Pirate Football 1990-1999PIRATES ERA OF "JUST DO IT!"
As we entered the '90's, The Pirates returned to the playoffs after a two year drought. Sinton suffered injuries that plagued the Pirates in 1988 that forced them with a record of 2-7 and started the rebuilding process under new head coach Gary Davenport in 1989 and ended the decade with a season record of 4-6. Davenport went on to become one the winningest coaches at Sinton High School in the early '90s. The term that launched "Just Do It" in that era certianly describe the Sinton Pirates they were known as the 'team to watch for' in Dave Campbell's Texas Football they were district favorites numerous times and voted in the Class 3A Top 25 Polls several times. In 1990 the Pirates returned to the state semifinals for the first time since the 1960's. Which earned them the number six spot in 1991 in the Class 3A Preseason Top 10. In a era known as the new Generation X the Pirates became very highly competitive and never quit they led the way for future Pirates to become a "team to watch for" to a "team you love to hate" in the 2000's as one of the best teams in south texas by extending their playoff appearances. There are many stories told about the Sinton Pirate football seasons but the most memoriable ones are 1990 Sinton vs. Crockett semifinal game in a heartbreaker loss 15-14 on a chilly December evening. And in 1991 Sinton vs. Hitchcock regional game, The Pirates managed to tie the game in the final seconds of the game with a score of 19-19 to advance to the quarterfinals, shocking both Pirate and Bulldog fans.
