News Article - South End Mini-Tourney Starts with Promise - Mar 11, 2010

The Storm have rebounded to play two very solid games, first against South End 1 where we lost a close one 4-2, including an empty-net goal as we pressed for a tie, and then a convincing 5-1 victory over South End 4. The boys restored some Storm pride with the win as they remembered how they were on the short end of a 5-0 defeat to the same team during the playoffs. One more round robin game is Saturday at 2:30, Walkley, as we play South End 3.

News Article - Playoffs End With Tie - Feb 28, 2010

The South End Storm saw their regular season and playoff end with a tie, and unfortunately that means the end of the road for this great group of kids. After two rough outings to start the playoffs, the boys played a super game Saturday but ran into a hot goalie, then played another strong game Sunday only to fall short when only a win would mean advancing to the semi-finals. We will have some practice time over the next two weeks before wrapping up our season with the City tournament starting Friday April 9.

Oh well, at least some guy named Crosby made everyone go home happy...

News Article - Storm Begin Playoffs With Loss - Feb 18, 2010

Ottawa East 1 continue to be a team the Storm have trouble with, as the opening game of the four-game round robin began with a 4-1 loss Tuesday evening. Storm coaches were very happy with the team's play in the first period, but the boys seemed to lose their focus after that. Stronger defensive zone coverage, better passing on the offensive side and a more consistent level of intensity are some areas where the team should be looking to improve. Perhaps this Saturday's outdoor practice will work magic like the Senators mythical skate in New York's Central Park that started their winning streak.

News Article - Effort is there in Weekend Losses - Feb 1, 2010

Despite two losses over the weekend the Storm continue to put out solid efforts and are building towards the playoffs in a positive way. Saturday's re-match with the Kanata Warriors saw the boys claw back to tie the game three times before Kanata notched the deciding goal. In Sunday's loss against Division-leading Canterbury 3 the Storm played well but could not get a timely goal that would have changed the dynamic of the game. Both efforts are steps in the right direction as the team finishes up the regular season this coming weekend.

News Article - Storm Surge as Playoffs Approach - Jan 25, 2010

With playoffs starting the Week of February 15, the South End Storm are showing signs that they are rounding into top form. Following a tough loss to Canterbury 3 on Thursday (the famous ping heard round the world, save for the guy in stripes) the Storm played one of their most solid end to end games of the year in shutting out WE 5 4-0 Saturday afternoon. After a good practice Sunday the team can look forward to two games this weekend, an exhibition match versus Kanata on Saturday and a Sunday evening league game.

News Article - Storm Fall to Casselman in Final - Jan 11, 2010

The South End Storm fell 1-0 to the Casselman Predators in a hotly contested B-side Final Sunday afternoon. These boys from Casselman were big, and played with an edge, no doubt inspired by the hold no prisoners attitude of their coaching staff. After the boys got over the initial shock of seeing the visiting team, or trying to see past the ones that weren't blocking out the sun, they played courageously but lost.  The Storm Coaches (after they finished their discussion on the effects of genetically modified grain supplements on human growth) talked to the boys about how they should hold their heads high, that this loss, while bitter in the dressing room, would serve to make them a better team for the regular season and playoffs. Getting to the final wasn't easy, as the Storm came back with two third period goals to tie Kanata on Saturday, and then beat Nepean in the elimination game Sunday morning. All in all a good tournament and something to build on as the season moves forward.

News Article - Storm Hits Ste-Isidore - Jan 8, 2010

In Game 1 of the tournament, the Storm played one of their best games of the season in defeating a tough Embrun team Thursday night by a score of 2-1. Aggresive forechecking and a stingy defence combined to get the boys off to great start in this very competitive tournament. Next up are the Kanata Falcons on Saturday afternoon.
