After finishing 2nd in the GCLA last season, Space City looks forward to increasing their roster and continuing the tradition of being true champions in all that we do.

We're currently holding practices every second Saturday of the month until October or November when we'll begin fall camp to reload for next seasons championship run.

News Article - Playoff Location Changed, Deck is Stacked in Northwest's Favor - Apr 23, 2009

The GCLA Championship Tournament originally scheduled at Dyess Park on the northwest side of town has been moved closer into the area.  The new location of the GCLA Champioship Tournament...you guessed it...Matzke Park; AKA Northwest Lacrosse's Home Field.  In addition to not having to travel for games for all the marbles, the club managed to find its way into the GCLA Invitational Tournament this weekend at Sylvan Rodriguez Park after much ado with the league.

Unlike the Warriors of Northwest, Space City Lacrosse is remaining steadfast and is determined to persevere against their most disrespectful foe.  'Even thought they manage to get whatever they want, they're going to have to go through a more talented although lightly filled out team in Space City.  We're counting down the days until we get our next shot at those babies,' said Matt Priesmeyer, Space City LC's VP.

Despite the unheralded catering, it is doubtful the Northwest lacrosse team will be handed the trophy as easily as they seem to be handed their way at every possible turn.  We'll find out May 3rd, 2009 at Matzke Park.

News Article - Cold Weathers, Lack of Numbers Ground Space City - Mar 22, 2009

On a cold and rainy day in March and sporting a 30+ roster, the Northwest Lacrosse club remained undefeated against the previously undefeated Space City Lacrosse club.  After a realignment of the GCLA following the 2008 season, the Northwest Warriors, after eight years of futility, have found the door open to the championship as the serious talent has been removed from league play.

The first face off was held amid 39 degree temperatures and a rain soaked field.  The Northwest club took advantage of the atrocious conditions and a huge home field advantage and decided not to call the game even though it was clear the Space City team didn't receive news of the field conditions until game time.  The Northwest lacrosse team, managed to miraculously assemble a roster of 30+ players after several weeks of many MANY less players than that; attributed to the unbelievable recruiting machine the Northwest Club was able to put together for a very important game.  After some trash penalties and trash talking warnings to both teams (Space City's first and only trash talking warning), the final score was a dismal 16-4.  Field conditions stymied the more talented Space City team and definitely acted as the proverbial great equalizer in this case.  Hopefully the Northwest team will be able to keep their lucky streak going, and pull off another upset of the Space City club in the championship tournament in May.  After eight years, Northwest actually may have a shot at winning a champioinship, but the first year team of Space City might have something to say to that.

News Article - Good Scrimmage This Weekend - Nov 24, 2008

Southside Scrimmage and Beyond

This past weekend we scrimmaged Southside.  Neither squad had a full team so we just did a half-field 6-on-6 scimmage.  All in all things went pretty well.  Both teams showed that there will be some good competition this year.

Nothing organized this weekend.  Doesn't mean there can't be some impromptu throwing sessions or individual work if you get some free time.  Enjoy the Turkey and family and friends.

We'll see all of you December 6, when we pick back up.

On another note, for those that will be in town, the Northwest/New Castle team is proposing another informal scrimmage for Nov. 29th at Matke Park.

Josh Williams from NW/NC Lax e-mail below:

GCLA Team contacts:

NW/NC Lacrosse would like ot hold a scrimmage for GCLA lteams November 29 starting at 10:00 a.m. at our home field.

We will divide up the teams, hand out practice pennies, and play a full game. If your team has a ref that might want to get some practice in please invite them out as well, especially if they are new to reffing lacrosse. This will give everyone a time to  get to know the new players in the GCLA.

Please respond by the end of the week with how many players you are expecting to attend, so I can get an accurate head count.

If anyone is interested let me know, and I will inform josh that we have people interested.

Thanks,

MP
