Cold Weathers, Lack of Numbers Ground Space CityMar. 22, 2009 On a cold and rainy day in March and sporting a 30+ roster, the Northwest Lacrosse club remained undefeated against the previously undefeated Space City Lacrosse club. After a realignment of the GCLA following the 2008 season, the Northwest Warriors, after eight years of futility, have found the door open to the championship as the serious talent has been removed from league play. The first face off was held amid 39 degree temperatures and a rain soaked field. The Northwest club took advantage of the atrocious conditions and a huge home field advantage and decided not to call the game even though it was clear the Space City team didn't receive news of the field conditions until game time. The Northwest lacrosse team, managed to miraculously assemble a roster of 30+ players after several weeks of many MANY less players than that; attributed to the unbelievable recruiting machine the Northwest Club was able to put together for a very important game. After some trash penalties and trash talking warnings to both teams (Space City's first and only trash talking warning), the final score was a dismal 16-4. Field conditions stymied the more talented Space City team and definitely acted as the proverbial great equalizer in this case. Hopefully the Northwest team will be able to keep their lucky streak going, and pull off another upset of the Space City club in the championship tournament in May. After eight years, Northwest actually may have a shot at winning a champioinship, but the first year team of Space City might have something to say to that.
