News Article - Stags like a Deer in the Headlights - May 14, 2012 The Eastern Stags have started their 2012 bid for Promotion to Division 1 in the worst possible fashion, losing their first three matches.
In the first two matches, poor batting left the Stags with no chance of victory at any stage during the battles. In the third match however, strong performances from new Kiwi Dan McCarthy, supported well by Junior Harsahej Dhutt set a strong foundation for the Stags to build an innings as they led the team through to 59-1. It was not to be, with the middle order crumbling and leaving the Stags wounded at 96-8 until veteran Roger Pressly and new boy Rakesh Kalyanaraman batted stoicly to lead the fightback with a partnership of 66 and guiding the Stags to a defendable 160 all out.
The fielding however let the Stags down. In with a real chance of victory, dropped catches and missed opportunities saw the Richmond battle through 7 wickets down to steal victory on a beautiful day at meadowbrook Park.
The Stags now face another cellar-dweller in Burrard CC and all will be hoping for their first strong performance to ensure a much needed victory. more [+] News Article - First Team Selection for April 28 vs Surrey Hawks - Apr 25, 2012 Scott Anderson
