TAIRUA GO DOWN West started strongly with possession of territory going in their favour, scoring an early try, followed by 3 penalties. Tairua responded with 2 penalties and a try of their own, to be down 13-14 at half time. In the second half West's forwards completely took over, dominating scrums and line outs. A push over try to Paeroa left Tairua 'score-less' in the second half. Players of the day went to Hayden Roe (again!!) and Lance Easton. A disappointing loss for Tairua, as they start the second round but ... she'll be right. History is in the making ... watch this space.

It was a game of running rugby, where the backs played a game of speed and width, to back up a strong forward performance. Stand-out forward and player of the day was Hayden Roe. Veteran half-back, Aaron Mac Donald (Onion), playing as Number 8, played 'alright' and nominated himself as the other player of the day. The team is gaining in strength week to week and is looking to continue this form to the end of the first round.

Ngatea started stongly, 3 - 0 up after the first 10 minutes, with big, powerful forwards ... it seemed like they had 2 forward packs out there, they were all so massive. Tairua fought back and started to string together some passes and started to score some points, leaving them 19 - 3 up at half time. Early in the second half Ngatea scored a try, thanks to Barty T. A scrappy game continued but thanks to Tairua's pace out wide they were able to put more points on the board. Players of the day were Josh Law and Scotty (too hotty) Graham, who was also looking very daper in his suit.
News Article - Thames - Apr 10, 2010 A GREAT START TO THE SEASON Tairua has had a fantastic start to the season, winning all 3 competition games to date. A convincing win against Paeroa West (31-0) with Curtis Hall and Josh Law named players of the day. Then on to beat Whitianga (21-18) in a closely fought match, with Scotty 'too Hottie' as player of the day. And last Saturday Tairua won against Thames (22-8), in a scrappy, hard fought game, with players of the day Cole Moore and Richard Coney. Richard Coney is now moving on to Perth. His skill and commitment to Tairua Rugby and Sports Club will be sorely missed.
