Tech Racquetball Club Constitution

Article I – Club Name
The official name of this club is Tech Racquetball Club, or in abbreviated form TRC.
Article II – Statement of Intent
This Club is designed to unite the racquetball players at Texas Tech University in order to encourage a competitive sportsmanship oriented level of play, and to encourage the participation in local and national tournaments as representatives of Texas Tech University and the city of Lubbock. However, it is also a social means of interaction for players of all skill level.
Article III - Membership
The Tech Racquetball Club has different types of membership, which each have separate requirements and benefits:
Section 3.01 Varsity Membership Requirements
(a) Pay dues – Choose 1 of the following membership plans at the beginning of the fall semester. If not at the beginning of the fall semester the price may be prorated.
(i) Pay dues of $200 for year membership
(ii) Pay dues of $240 for year membership with a bronze level equipment package from Racquetworld.com
(iii) Pay dues of $300 for year membership with a silver level equipment package from Racquetworld.com
(iv) Pay dues of $325 for year membership with a gold level equipment package from Racquetworld.com
(b) Fill out application online – www.freeteams.net/techracquetballclub
(c) Attend tryouts, or email president and give valid reason for missing tryouts and possible reschedule dates within 2 days of tryouts. Only 20 varsity members can be in the club. If not signing up at the beginning of a semester, no tryouts are necessary, but you may have to wait for a spot in varsity to open up.
(d) Attend 50% of required practices. Attending a sanctioned tournament counts as 2 practice attendances.
(e) Provide your TTU R-number.
Section 3.02 Other Membership Type Requirements
(a) Pay dues – Choose 1 of the following membership plans at the beginning of the fall semester. If not at the beginning of the fall semester the price may be prorated.
(i) Pay dues of $10 for year Recreational membership
(ii) Pay dues of $25 for year Junior Varsity Starter membership
(i) Pay dues of $100 for year Junior Varsity membership

Section 3.03 Membership Benefits
(a) Membership benefits change from year to year. The membership benefits for 2012 are defined in this following document found on our website:

Section 3.04 Tryouts & National Intercollegiate Team
(a) Twenty Varsity men and Twenty Varsity women will be accepted at tryouts. Team members are rated based on skills, attitude, and sportsmanship by a panel of club officers.
(b) There is no limit on the number of Recreational or Junior Varsity members in the club, and they are not required to tryout
(c) The top 6 women and top 6 men on the TRC Ladder 1 month prior to the National Intercollegiate Tournament, reserve the right to attend the National Intercollegiate Tournament.
(d) In order to attend the National Intercollegiate Tournament eligible players must complete the following:
(i) Confirm that they can miss classes and notify the president
(ii) Notify all of their teachers of their absence 2 weeks prior to the trip
(iii) Pay the $20 tournament fee 3 weeks prior to the trip to the president or treasurer
(e) The president reserves the right to attend National Intercollegiate as an extra roster member if he/she does not make the top 6.
(f) All Intercollegiate Tournament attendees will receive both their 1st and 2nd entry fee paid, along with gas and hotels in return for their $20 tournament fee
(g) Any players in the top 6 that do not follow the above stipulations (3.05.c), or simply do not want to go, will be replaced by the next eligible member on the ladder. If the next eligible member cannot go, the following eligible member will be asked etc. until an eligible member is found that is willing and able to go.
Section 3.05 Payment Requirements
(a) Once a member attends at least 1 practice, he/she is the REQUIRED to pay the dues by the due date.
Article IV – Officers and Coaches
The following is a list of officers, and coaches and their respective duties and benefits:
Section 4.01 President
Final decision in all club matters and in charge of paperwork and rec center requirements for the club.
Section 4.02 Recruiting Officer
In charge of club development and recruiting new members.
Section 4.03 Fundraising Officer
In charge of running tournaments and raising funds for club activities..
Section 4.04 Coaches
The racquetball club will have multiple coaches, responsible for encouraging club members growth in skill at Racquetball.
Section 4.05 New officers
New officers will be nominated and elected by existing officers.
Article VI – Tech Racquetball Club Affiliates
There is no official correlation between Tech Racquetball Club and any national or local racquetball organizations. However, the club is unofficially associated with the following organizations:
Section 6.01 Organizational Affiliates
(a) TXRA- Texas Racquetball Association- A division of the USRA; many of the tournaments that the TRC attends are TXRA Sanctioned
(b) USRA- United States Racquetball Associations- All of the tournaments we attend, along with our annual fundraiser tournament are sanctioned by this organization.
(c) SCRC- Southern Collegiate Racquetball Conference- This organization is due to start up in 2009/2010, and the TRC will be one of its founding members. They plan on hosting meets semi-annually that the TRC may attend.
Section 6.02 Sponsors
(a) Racquetworld- www.racquetworld.com – Gives discounts on equipment to all Raider Plus members.
(b) Ektelon- Sponsors and supports many of the fundraiser tournaments held by TRC. Also offers some collegiate sponsorships to players.
Article VII - Advisor
Selection of Advisor will be done by the President and Vice President each year. Selection must be made by April 1st.
