Cup game v Newpark

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Aug. 19, 2012

Certainly wont be getting carried away after a thumping victory against a new side who will be playing in the First Division this season but the nature of the performance today was far more pleasing than the actual scoreline .

Missing today were Bingo( working) ,Calzo and Dug ( both unavailable) Mainsy and Timothy injured and most disappointingly Kenny Park who got injured yesterday to deny him his competitive debut .

Played some really good stuff today and always looked dangerous going forward .6 debutants in the side today so all in all a very good day at the office however it is only one small step forward but an encouraging one nevertheless .

Individual assessment

Asbo - Very good performance from Asbo though was not overly exerted ,was quick off his line and used the ball to great effect - need to get him to sit up all night on the drink more often lol.

Billy J - Started a wee bit ropey against possibly their best player but grew into the game and is becoming more and more confrident in possession .Linked up with Broony really well at times .Can be well pleased with his performance .Wish he would open his ffin mouth more often ,unlike the aforementioned Broony who needs to keep his shut lol

Lee - defensively very very solid as ever but first half hour his distribution was shite .Thereafter found his feet and had a very good game

Scott - playing at sweeper and rarely troubled at the back - decent enough performance but once or twice perhaps let himself down with his final pass .

Spade - new team captain and led by example .Took the marking role against their lone striker and never gave an inch against a fair player .Even managed to venture forward a few times .Great lad to have leading the side .

Broony - very talented boy who has not been performing to his own high standards recently .Had a wee chat with him before the game and whether that had something to do with it or not the wee man was superb today . Very direct running ,great crossing and even notched a nice goal from a chip over the keeper . More of the same please Broony .

Basher - through work commitments Basher felt it was best to pass the captains armband to Spade but it certainly didnt affect his performance .Snapped into every tackle ,linked front and back and as usual covered every inch .Superb through pass for Deanos second goal .Excellent

Gaz - Debut for the laddie from Falkirk and what a player this boy is - very competitive but also very composed in possession I dont think the boy wasted a pass all day - should be delighted with his first start cos he can be a real star for us .Quality .

Wully - I dont know what has come over Wully but in the past few months he has just improved and improved - very nice touch for a big laddie and also very comfortable in possession .Terrified the full back into being subbed after half an hour or so and thoroughly deserved his goal .

Craig - Superb performance from the wee man ,notched a hat trick but not only that he twisted and turned around their big defenders all day .Fitter than he has been for a few seasons and guaranteed to bang in plenty this year .Special mention for his first goal - belter of a header .Great performance .

Deano - I sincerely hope that this boy soon realises what a player he is - great feet and very very quick but also has great awareness - no bad in the air either as our opening goal showed .Only just settling into the side but like his wee pal Craig will terrify defences this year .Outstanding .

Blacky - played the last half hour at centre half and never put a foot wrong ( well maybe he slipped once and gave the ball away lol) Bags of experience and there will be situations where the auld heid will be invaluable .Used the ball very well today and was never flustered.

Duncy - A few eyebrows were raised when I signed Duncy but he can be well pleased with his last half hour performance in the engine room - typically Duncy he was in about things straight away and loves a tackle but there is more to the lad than that - linked the play very very well and went box to box with enthusiasm . Maybe this is just the move that Duncy needed to get the spark back .

Buntsy - I have said for years that injury and fitness have held Buntsy back because as he showed today ,given the opportunity he can still bang them in .The first of his hat trick was an absolute peach but not only that he was involved in the build up to several of the goals . Probably behind the 2 young lads in the pecking order for starting but a very handy striker to come on and grab a goal .Well played Bunts.

Wee Buntsy - last 25 minutes wide on the left and as usual was absolutely buzzing ,chasing and scampering up and down the flank .Terrific guy to have in the camp and a vital help to me as well .

All in all a very satisfactory performance but no reason to get carried away just yet - there will be many more tougher challenges ahead but these are now challenges that we can approach with a wee bit more confidence despite being written off all over the place .I reckon we could surprise a few yet .
