Former Kekaulike state champion Akoni Clubb CLOSED CLUBB?: Instead of being a senior decathlete at Azusa Pacific University, King Kekaulike's Akoni Clubb is currently suspended for violating school policy and is awaiting a committee decision. Clubb, 21, posed for the December cover and inside spread of a women's magazine that features semi-nude or fully nude men. The magazine sought Clubb, who modeled for JC Penny and fitness and sportswear ads when he attended Mt. San Antonio Junior College in Calif. in 2004. Clubb had no intensions of making modeling his full-time career, but like many college students needing money, the Maui resident accepted the offer feeling it would be an easy way to earn good money. Once the publication hit newstands school officials suspended Clubb for violating school policy. The decision came on the heels of an outstanding junior season that saw Clubb earn All-American honors. He capped the best decathlon of his career with a near 400-point improvement from 2006, tallying 6,847 points to finish third in the NAIA. “It was very selfish of me to do it," Clubb was quoted as saying in a blog last December. "I wasn’t really thinking. I would never want to disrespect Coach Reid, Coach Barnett or Bryan Clay. I respect them highly.” Clubb's remorse and personal apology to the team, however, may not be enough to have him reinstated. A hearing is expected to take place at the Christian school once the investigation is complete, followed by a confidential meeting between the student and administration. While Clubb awaits a phone call from the school he has been seen on Maui working out and trying to stay in shape. The following are Clubb's career marks established as a junior in 2007: 110 hurdles - 14.96 High Jump - 6-3 3/4 Long Jump - 22-9 Pole Vault – 14-5 ¼ Shot Put – 41-3 ¾ Discus – 124-3 Javlin – 154-5 100m – 11.14 400m – 53.28 1,500 – 5:14.19 SMITH DIARIES: Kamehameha Maui has its only track Alumni competing in the at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.
