U14's Leicester Dynamite vs Newcastle Eagles Saturday 14th April 2012 1st Round Play Off Game Newcastle Eagles 71 - Leicester Dynamite 83

Our day started at 7.30am to travel to Newcastle for our 1st ever U14 play off game. Although many team members had previous play off experience from their U13 days this was the 1st time the club had reached this stage at U14.  The road trip was good with the team in high spirits, looking forward to the challenge ahead. We arrived at approx 11.15am and went straight into our warm up, an hour ahead of the tip.  After a pre-game talk with the coaches the players were ready for the game.

We scored the 1st basket and the score went back and forth throughout the quarter with the home team taking a 5 point lead at the end of the 1st quarter, 23-18.  In the 2nd quarter Dynamite played a much improved defensive game, making some really good baskets from a variety of sources.  At the half the game was tied 40 all.

During the 3rd quarter we ran out and managed to score the 1st 3 baskets, we then continued to trade baskets with the opposition, and the 3rd quarter ended with Dynamite up by 4, 59 - 63. In the 4th quarter, we managed to pull away from Newcastle and went up by 10 points, they pulled it back to a 2 points defecit.  Dynamite then went on another run, ignited by Reece Hall who started the recovery by making 2 crucial baskets. We were up by 11 with a minute to go, but Newcastle made a three to bring the lead back to 8, they then went on to foul Dynamite in an attempt to stop the clock and make us shoot from the line, hoping we would miss.  During the last 45 seconds we made 50% from the line and made another layup, resulting in Dynamite winning the game by 12. The players were obviously elated and very excited, pleased with a job well done by all.

We would like to thank Newcastle for hosting the game and we appreciated their sportsmanlike behaviour, even in defeat.  They were very generous and congratulated us, wishing us well for the next round. It was a great team performance and the coaching team have been striving to achieve this all season.  It was a very proud moment for the coaches and we are looking forward to another week of hard work. Cool
